  • Fox Shock chatters

As an expectant owner wanting to upgrade my Prado undercarriage from the start, I am interested in the claim that the Fox shox outperform the Bilsteins. But the websites of course each claim their product is the best! Has a comparison been done? Why should I pay twice as much when the Bilstein package is so widely accepted as the best current after market one? Im interested in technical argument not assertions.
Prado VX D4D: Toyo Bars, IPF Spots, Cargo Barrier, GME 3440 UHF, recovery points, Ozicozi coat, Cooper STs. ATS suspension, Airtec snorkel, dual battery, Maxtraxs, Ultimate camper trailer.

As I stated before your post, we will monitor them, from previous experience, on other models of vehicle we currently do Fox for, as well as Bilstein, the Fox is certainly better in the area we use them for on those vehicles. Why you want want you want is really up to you, but experience tells me, we can evolve, and improve what we do, thats why we have the internet now, instead of smoke signals from cave to cave

Here is a pic of the Fox Shocks with thew remote reservoir bracket that comes with the FJ package (I assume it's the same as the 120).

Nope doesnt work on a 120 for 2 reasons, the washer bottle on one side, and the ARB bar support on the other.

I'd be interested in finding out a bit more about them - price etc.
I have billies on at the moment that are only 3 month old (thanks Darren) but having just got back from Madigans, I must say I was very disappointed in them. On about the 4th day the front ones completely gave up (not just fade, they were had it from first thing in the morning)and the backs were better but not what they were like so i bounced the rest of the way home, which wasn't much fun  . After driving for a could of hours on the bumps, I could get out and put my hand on the front ones and they would only be slightly warm, so obviously not doing anything.
Hopefully they are just faulty and not what they are normally like

          cheers

Contact the seller mate, you might just be unlucky to have receive a faulty batch. If it's not sorted out then feel free to return to this forum to share your frustration with us, we could like to hear your experience. However, 2 points you must take on board when deciding to do that.

                1) Start a new thread
                2) Do not publicly name the company or person! You may do so via PM to interested parties only.

thanks for your comments but please stick to the topic.

                  Thats fine wegnuts
I figure i just have a couple of faulty ones as no one else seems to have any problem with them and they have a good reputation. I am not annoyed at anyone or the supplier and would expect them to be fine to deal with as they always have been (I was thanking the person I named in getting them in the first place, not trying to have a go at them)
                  cheers

xvprado had a problem with some bilsteins.. i think it was due to a stone strike on the bore. They originally wanted to charge him to do a rebuild but came to the party in the end and did it for free..

heard other stories of them flogging out bushes as they are rubber instead of polyurethane... much quieter, but not as resilient?

i think i recall darren saying he uses the toyota bushes instead of the billies ones?

                      Lexus bushes are best ;-)

I would need the shocks to dyno them and graph them to work out where the problem lies, and wether its one, or both that are the problem.

Do they make a "clink" or "thunk" noise when they travel up or down ?

Not that I have heard at all. Its like the valves that the oil ? goes through are gone and the oil goes up and down without any impediment. If I push down on the bullbar it goes down, then up and down about 3 times before settling down.
I'll get them out in the next week or so and put the standard ones back in for now
The first few days they got very hot as expected but then after 3 days both the front ones were only warm to touch after working hard, while the back ones were pretty hot indicating they were doing something.
Do you want me to contact you as you have moved on, or the other place that I can't mention :?

                        cheers

Send them to me, and I will take a look, see what goes on.

Sending them anywhere else, you would just get screwed around.
