  • Max Lift Before issues.

    Hi all,
Soon to fit some lift into the truck, but have a quick question. From the suspension gurus, what would we consider "safe" max lift with a margin in there before you start to affect/damage CV's, pan hards, etc? At the moment, I am looking at a set of Dobinson springs (45-50mm), foam cell shocks and a couple of packers/spacers all round for a little bit extra.

    Thoughts/comments appreciated

About 40-50mm lift. Beyond that and you start to ask too much from the CV angles and will need to drop the diffs.

      Re: Max Lift Before Damage

With no other modifications apart from springs and shocks the most you can lift the front is 810-815mm (from bottom of rim to guard) at this point you are on the very limit of the wheel alignment adjustment. It's also pushing the CV angle a little to far but it's certainly not terrible and a reasonable service life could still be expected.

If you keep the factory front to rear ratio then you'd be around 840-845mm in the rear.

You must also retain 60-70mm of droop/down travel in the front to avoid constantly bottoming your shock out and lifting a wheel at every fast corner.

Most long travel shocks give you around 870(ish) mm droop. Any more than this and the standard upper control arm ball joint is near binding and the arm itself will be hitting the coil/strut. CV angle would also be an issue as the are also close to binding.

The only way to go higher is aftermarket upper control arms, a diff drop, and appropriate length struts. (Plus a few other minor tweaks)

A few of us on PP are now running higher than "off the shelf" lifts (Myself and DoubleD_69 for example) I run a custom lift, the front rides at 830mm and the rear at 860mm.

        Re: Max Lift Before issues.

Thanks all for the info. Decided to go Dobinson springs all round with Bilstien shocks. Now just to wait until the end of the month when I'm in Brisvegas to get them fitted

        Reports and pics will follow.

          Lift Completed

Just an update on my completed suspension upgrade. End up with Dobinson springs (increased load ratings) all round, and Tough Dog adjustable shocks. 3500kms in, and I am very happy with the entire setup. Ended up getting around 65mm of lift in the front and about 70mm in the rear

A huge thanks to John from Zordos Suspension for fitting me in and doing a great job for my one night stop in Brsbane.

Just put in new springs and shocks. Front is up to 217mm. Hoping it settles in a quickly and ends up around 210mm or lower :|
