  • BFG Mud Terrains KM2 or Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ

    Hi,
I recently posted looking for some BFG Mud Terrains and as that was a little delayed, I found a ready supply of Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's. I already have ATR's, 2 inch lift, DL etc but looking for a bit more grip and for the dirt and muddy stuff. It's not a daily driver

So my quesiton is which of the two tyres woudl you choose out of the BFG Mud Terrains KM2 or MT Baja MTZ and why?

    Cheers

Hehehe, opinionated tyre war... All in all i think you might be looking at apples and apples? Personnal preference to looks may be a deciding factor!

Personnaly, I prefer the MT Baja MTZs and they haven't let me down yet.

EDIT: with exception to the morgan quarry bogging, but that was more stupidity, lack of lockers and some rather unnecessary encouragement from good old MLC... (think its the october pic from the 2012 calendar.)

Have you considered Goodyear MTR kevlars ? I previously had MTZs and now run the MTRs.

Pity the goodyears can only be fitted with the white lettering out, counts me out as a potential customer. I know a few people running them and they are all happy with them.

I had the MTZ's on both my Discovery 2 & 3 & found them to be a great tyre.

My son has recently fitted KM2s to his Discovery 2 & I have found them to be much quieter with good grip both on & off road.

Purely for the noise reduction I am considering them for my Prado when it arrives.

They have enough grip & are quiet enough to leave on as daily drivers however I visit construction site regularly so need at least an aggressive AT.

          Regards

            Thanks Disco,
That's exactly the type of info I was after. I don't want to start a tyre war , so that people that have run both like you, are an invaluable source of info.

I've found the MTZs don't like greasy side slopes...

Why were you delayed, hadn't you decided on what you were looking for?

MTZ's get very noisy once they start to wear out, I wouldn't buy them again, but out of your choices I would choose neither and go for the Goodyear MTR's if spending that amount of money. 4WD Action tested the KM2's for a mud tyre to be quite quiet on the road, whether it stays like this once they were out I don't know.

I'm running a directional Kumho KL71 mud tyre at the moment a far cheaper option, but I do plan to run a BFG All Terrain later in the year when the wet season is over. As you mentioned its not a daily drive these could also be an option.

Here is a link to the thread i created if you want to see how they look on the Prado.

                      Thanks PLAYDOH,
Yes I read that with interest, thanks for the real feedback.
They do look good, but being direrectional limits them a little. I dont think the other two were dirctional tyres. I will have to check.
                      Cheers

Just out of curiosity, what size are you getting?
I'm getting new tyres soon and I will be getting the bfg muds, purely because I like the fact everyone says they are quieter, and a guy at work always runs them and gets 60,000 - 70,000 out of them.
                          Cheers, Josh

I have a set of KM2's on my ute (GU with 35's) nd they are an awesome tyre. Extremelly grippy off road and on. Replaced them after doing a trouble free 70,000 + km's, still have 8mm of tread left. I find them to be quiet on road (compared the cooper st on the prado).

My pick would be the km2's over the Mickey T.
120 V6, with a little bit of this n that

haha, joking, I would be to if I would drive something other than a Toyota.
