I am about to buy a set of AT tyres. I have used BF Goodridge before , which I found a great compromise tyre. Any better tyres on the market before I invest $1500?

My choice would be the Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib.
Reasons:
Newer compound
Newer tread design
Quiet
Comfortable both on & off road.
Nothing wrong with BFG AT's just they have been round a long time now with no updates.
One common criticism is lack of grip when they get a bit old.Cheers

I've just put on my second set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR's (265x65x17). I got over 80k on the first set and they are super quiet on the road, they grip on wet slippery roads even when the side lugs have worn down. (still plenty of tred in the centre when I replaced them) and they work supprisingly well on dirt, gravel and slippery mud. (I don't normally do sand).
Now people say 90% road/10% dirt is mild use.. but I rekon I do more dirt than a lot of people and it would be more like 1% dirt. You do a lot of sealed road to get to a couple of Ks of dirt. So I really appreciate a quiet easy drive down the expressway - last thing I want is some aggressive tyre howling away all the time. But you also don't want to get stuck on that little bit of dirt. I have used BFG ATs and agree they can be nasty when worn down. They also chip a lot on fast rocky roads. (but are good when new). I think the Pirelli's are an undiscovered gem.Steve
