I had to change my first tyre recently on the passenger side front wheel and I'm curious, the wheel once raised did not spin freely despite the fact it was in 2WD, unless the clutch was depressed. I understand that these are not free wheeling hubs and that I guess therefore that in 2WD the wheel turns the whole transmission back as far as the transfer box where it is disconnected from the engine power? Is this correct? Why then could I not turn the wheel in 2WD unless the clutch was depressed??? Can someone please explain in laymans terms?

The prado is a constant 4wd. There is no 2wd.2011 150series GXL -

Yeah, thx Wooley. I knew it was going to be a simple explanation like that. Just testing to see if you guys were all on the ball! Actually I have now ferreted out the owners manual and read up on this. I had assumed because the dash 4wd light only comes on in HL or LL that in H when the light went off that it was in 2wd.
