All wheels centre off the hub not the studs. If I can remember I will weigh the spare (s) tonight and post it.

Oh and the main reason I change the alloy spare to a steel wheel when we go bush is so that I don't worry about what damage the axe/shovel holder is doing to the pretty alloy. Also I cannot fit my alloys to the trailer unless I lash out for new studs...

For comparrisson purposes I weighed one of my 265/70/17 BFG's on an alloy before my Madigans trip and it was 31kg total!

      Cheers Andrew

Thats why you carry MAXTRAX as well as a winch, less shovel work

I use gx steel rims on my gxl
I use alloy nuts no problem, there is a taper.
          Both sets centre from hub!
Just small jingle from washer when running steel.
I carefull as I am I have done damage the steel (slipping round on rocks) that would have cracked an alloy to throw away! twice in last 6 months, not to mention all the scuffing and wear n tear the alloys would have copped.
I have easily repaird the steel with the hammer, they are heavy and very thick and strong
Not like some cheap makes Of sunrasias.

I don't know the weight, but very heavy!!!

OK just weighed the GX steelie and BFG A/T 275/65 17 LT. Ready? 37.8kg. Ouch! I would think that if anything the 265/70 tyre Andrew weighed with his alloy would be heavier than a 275/65 since it is a bigger tyre overall. However, the BFG website shows that the 275/65s are 53.06 lb while the 265s/70s are 53.2 lb so not much in it. Near enough as to make no difference the steel wheels are 7 kg heavier than the alloys. I will have to drop the spare off and check the weight of the phoenix cf the standard alloy. I cannot adjust for the lack of tread though, maybe 50% worn...

I have the Phoenix alloys and I weighed them before the tyre was mounted. The weight is listed in the thread I linked to previously.

I have been wondering about the trailer weight ever since Andrew asked the question. So I went and borrowed it back this afternoon (which meant emptying about a tonne of wet mulch, thanks) and put it on 3 sets of bathroom scales. Not the best but probably close enough. 265kg. That is with the spare tyre holder and LPG bottle holder on the front (3/10s of 4/5s of not much). So the fixed jockey wheel, BFG 275/65 17s (two), GX steelies and longer 50mm axle and the heavier 3 leaf springs have added 60 odd kg. I know I noticed the difference with the axle. AND the wheels.
