  • Extreme wear

Folowing my engine failure I had cause to tow my Prado approx 1200km of which 400 was on dirt. I had the front end aligned only last Friday and got my BFGs reversed on the rims and all balanced up. The tyres had done 72,000km and were about 60% worn. Well, the front tyres are now almost completely devoid of tread. I had 28psi on the dirt and 40 on the bitumen. I was towed by a 4wd dual cab ute and I had removed both driveshafts before the tow. Could this excessive wear be due to the tow? I look at the front end and the wheels seem to be pointing outwards slightly. Could the recent adjustment have been stuffed up?

Oh dear. This don't sound like its ending very well at all Bushy. The problem may be that your rig was insulted having to be towed by a lesser vehicle, but the suggested adjustment sounds more likely.

Has to be the alignment. I scrubbed out two fronts in less than 5k once courtesy of a bad alignment.

Just completed a similar wear issue on my front two MTZ's due to putting the wheel alignment out at Beachport during the GTG recce... Definitely sounds like the same thing for you Bushy!

I onyl had the alignment done less than 1500km before and only drove around 400km on a good dirt road before the extreme wear became evident after my recovery. Anyway got 5 new BFG ATs now ($445 ea incl fitting and balancing). Injectors 'roo as per my post in the diesel rattle forum.
