Nankang???

Anyone with any experience using these tyres?

I have been offered an excellent price on a set of these and am a bit cautious - obviously. I could save a bucket load over other name tyres, but I guess it's caveat emptor

So, I want to know if anyone has any first hand experience?

Not too sure about the 4WD tyres, but a mate of mine had a set on a Commodore once. They lasted forever and for one good reason.

They were the hardest rubber you could imagine. In the dry they would grip ok. In the wet, he may as well have had oil sprays onto his tyres!!!

Very dangerous in the wet. Aquaplaned violently on the highway in drizzly conditions. They were also very noisy as they were so hard.

The best thing we found with them was they were excellent burnout tyres. Cheap, smoked ok and lasted forever.

But as I said, not too sure about the off road tyres...

After I posted this thread, I continued surfing the rest of the net (which of course is not as informative as this forum ). There seems to be a theme with them being slippery on blacktop in the wet.

Seems a few other issues too, including delaminating.

Some of the guys who use their 4wd as a wannabe rally car seem to love them - tough wearing and cheap to replace, I guess. But I read they drop the bead easily and dig into the sand a bit too much.

Think I answered my own question :roll: , to be honest, but feel free to post thoughts and comments.

Don't under any circumstances buy Nankang, had two tread separate, one at 100k's, bald by 30,000, would never buy one.

as ive mentioned before we had a name for nankang when i was in the tyre trade - nang bang

we used to sell all of the above. nankang no good. the other two used to wear really well but as far as grip ect go pay a little more .

There's plenty of guys on outerlimits who swear by the Nankang Mudstars.

Mine needed quite a few weights to balance them. They were pretty noisey, but very good apart from those minor problems. They wore very well too.

Perforamance is far better than BFG A/T.

I run the Nankang Mudstars and have for just over a year now. They have put up with everything I've thrown at them and are wearing very well.

Nankangs are tops for wheel spin and last for ages... Had a set on my Rotary, was scary (or fun) going round rounabouts in the wet and they would cop an absolute basting and still hardly feathered... Locked diff and 330HP chewing on them with my right foot, they were perfect rear tyres.... Bridgies on the front though!!!! :wink:
