  • Bridgestone D694

I am using them and find them a very good tyre on the black, but as yet I have not put them to a full off road test. But on the black I cant fault them.
    cheers

We have them, Cant fault them.

Quiet on the road (A very slight hum at 100) you dont hear it over the radio though.

    Excellent so far on Mud/Dirt/Sand.

I am happy with them, and have decided already to install them on our work 4wd's as well.

      So guys,

I'm somewhat uneducated in the tyre department. One question I'd like to ask is what they're like on a WET road (if you've found one during this *&^ drought)?

The last time I drove a vehicle (bosses 4wd) with Duellers in the wet, I had the hell scared out of me. I found them to have next to no traction under brakes (aquaplaning), and when cornering they lost traction without warning. When I told the boss, he said "I meant to tell you to watch it in the wet".

That was 20 years ago, and I know technology has come a long way. My original tyres are going to be due in the next couple of months, so I'm researching all my options.

      Thanx in advance!

The old duellers were total crap! These are totally different. I drove 1200kms thru a severe thunderstorm that seemed to be going the same direction and same bloody speed as me the other day and have no complaints.

I remember that we used to run the old desert duellers on 3 of our work 4x4's. They used to throw belts a lot too and go out of shape with constant 100km+ stuff.

The new ones are totally different. You have to look at what you are doing, if your looking at more off road than on, a more aggresive tyre would be the go.
For most of us city boys the 694 is an excellent compromise.

Is everyone still happy with D694? I am about to put a set
to replace craptetcks. How much there they? $302 each
is the cheapest I found so far....

Not sure about price, but how many kms did you get out of your grandtreks? I'm picking up the Prado on Monday and will probably just wear out the factory tyres before upgrading

                  Midge,

I got 50-55K out of 5 craptecs with ATS suspension. While they'll be OK
I would recommend to swap them straight off once you get the new car..

Getting a set of D694s + tyre sensors fitted on Saturday...

How many people on the list with D694s vs other tyres?

Poor slads his ears must be burning...

I'm heading out bush tomorrow to do some stuff up between Woomera > Roxby downs for a few days and will be off road and off track, so be interesting to see how the 694's perform in a total offroad situation of crappy gibber plains and salt lake beds!

                        2000kms in 2.5 days, I'm Back!
Killed a 694 out at Lake Torrens, Staked it on a sharp rock.
Hadnt lowered pressures from 37 so hot they were probably in the 40'S which may/may not have saved it from getting staked.
Tore a hole 15 mm long in the carcass exterior and 35 mm inside!
Found a guy in Roxby Downs that patched it and rerubbered it with some spiffy gun thing they use on the mining trucks! (Its now a spare though).

Found the 694's good, apart from getting bogged twice. Once on a salt lake edge where you had to cut across the very edge of it (track went there) and after the recent rains it was super muddy underneath.
Managed to get that out easy enough with lowered pressures and some rocks and a couple guys pushing.
Second time was on a sand dune crossing where we bottomed the thing out onto the fuel tanks/chassis and it was all over!
Spent 2 hours hand winching that one out as there was no other way! The tyres were useless as they were sitting at the end of their suspension travel and just spinning.

The 694's were good on the btumen/dirt & sand and quiet and comfy on the main tracks (Oodnadata / Borefield Road etc).
(These tracks are more like highways ! comfortable at 100kmh +)

I knew before that you really need an aggresive tyre for the rougher stuff, but am overall quite satisfied with the performance of the 694's on this trip.
I think with the staking even an STT or MTR would have suffered the same fate. (Terrain = Ironstone + sharp shale)
Lowering tyre pressures to around 30-32 may/may not have prevented staking. Certainly having them at 32 all the way back to the bitumen (600 + kms) saw no more issues.

                        * note: Saw 2 other cars in a 30 km stretch with staked tyres on the same track! (one had done 2 in 5 kms! we had to give them a lift into andamooka to get an extra spare).

I think as a lot of others are doing, a second set of tyres/Rims is the go for a big trip. Stt's MTR's anything aggressive with a heavier construction.

STT - YES would be stuffed up as well. MTR - NOPE

Hehehe, I'll see if the over the dash shot of the car in front of us on one track worked out or not when I download them all.

Guess "what" the tyre was on his rear door in not so happy condition?
He had staked it and then not stopped quick enough and ore the carcass to shreds!
