  • Hey All, sorry to be lazy, we are on the road and have very limited Internet so no time/data to spend searching all over the traps.

We are in Alice springs currently, heading to Katherine and Darwin over the next fortnight, any tips on the best/cheapest place round these parts to get a set?

Again sorry to be lazy, only got 1gig of Internet a month, amazing how quick that goes!

    Cheers, MMR

      • Tyre decision made!

So... I had a small issue, got up in the morning and one tyre was dead flat. Had to change it before work and put on the original (Factory) road tyre. Anyway, the tyre was stuffed as a used Stanley blade was embedded.. so, new tyre.
But then I can't get just one when the other 3 have done 72000 km each, so I have to get four, then, the spare is there... so I got five.
In the end I replaced my 265/70/17 with the same choice.

I do love these tyres though.

Oh... and the speedo is next to exact now. It was about 5km High... but that is the safe option.

        Thanks for the input.

        • Tyre Plus in Wanaroo (WA) was doing BFG 265s for $335 + lifetime puncture repair and tyre rotation for free (10,000kms).

I was tempted to do 265/70s however my research and advice from insurance company/Dept of transport led me to believe that bigger tyres + a 2 inch lift may be boarder line illegal (total height inscrease +50mm). Insurance said no probs but "only if the mods did not cause the crash/incident" - A risk I was not willing to take on a new car. Maybe next set of tyres.

          • Hi all,

I've had a quick search through this thread and interested to know people's thoughts on the gear ratio's for a d4d 6 speed manual with the 265/70/17? is it noticeable at all or maybe slighter better with 1st gear being so high?

            cheers,
            Shaun

            • Hey guys!!!

Bought my first Prado on the weekend! 2003 V6 Grande. The previous owner had it since new and it was their "Toorak Tractor", shows no signs of ever being driven offroad...
Got some big plans for it, but need to start with the tyres as they're due to be replaced anyway. From what I can gather the BFG A/T 265/70R17's should fit it without needing a lift, right? Or should I play it safe and go the 265/65R17's?

              Cheers,

              Rob

              • Welcome to the club, Bobby.

265/70R17s will fit fine. You need to keep in mind that they are strictly illegal, but everyone has them.

                Cheers

                • Thanks Corigator! Just wanted to be sure before I went and ordered 5.

Can anyone recommend a good tyre joint in Melbourne with a reasonable price? I saw that Tempe Tyres in Sydney are doing them for $300ea fitted and balanced and I'll be up that way at Christmas, so might just wait it out if I can find any down here.

                  Cheers.

                  • probably another stupid question on my behalf but being a tight ar$e just doing all the sums in my head. would running a 265/65/17 spare with 265/70/17's be strongly advised against? or would sensible driving to the nearest repairer be fine on the very rare occurance of a flat?

                    • With the all wheel drive u r best to have all tyres the same size as it can cause issue in the drivetrain.

Hutch- Prado 150 with some TJM Kit.

                        G day

I have a 2007 Prado 120 VX running Std road tyres on the factory Alloys. Id like to have a second set of Tyres and rims with BFG Mud terrains on them.

Can someone confirm if the following combo will work on my vehicle without any rubbing or clearance issues

                        BFG 265 70 R 17 on 17*8 steel rims +30 offset.

                        Thx

That should work just fine, that's a pretty common set up for a lot of guys.
