  • Noisy MTZ

I have just had 265/70R17 MTZ fitted and cant believe how noisy they are on the road. Doesn't matter what speed, always noisy.

Anyone experience this? Will it quiten down? I am seriously considering buying another set of rims with more road going tyres.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

I have the same size and also find them noisy.

every one raves about them being quiet, well not these ones.

Its not annoying to me, but when you tell the wife that these new tyres are going to be less noisy than mud terrains (and they are the same) well not alls good in the world.

Can you please place your location in your profile.....

You have serious Offroad tyres, not highway tyres  They are guaranteed to be noisy!

        Nath,

The MTZ's are designed for 80% offroad work and 20% on road. As you can see from the above figures they're not really designed to be used as a highway tyre.

I have a set of MTZ's and AT3's and do the old swappies when required which keeps me happy. I do find the MTZ's noisy but you get used to them after a while.

Personnal opinion I suppose unless they have changed recently but I really didn't think they were too bad. Not sure if you've been off road yet but the pay off is worth it.

Thanks Mav for the offer. Unfortunatly I am going to have to decline your offer this time.

I am now looking for a second set of rims and road tyres.

Having front and rear diff locks instelled 6 & 7 October. the following weekend I am off to Licola for a camping trip m/bike riding and a little bit of 4wding. Cant wait to see how the lockers and tyres go.

i was thinking of going with 285 but weakened at the thought of damaging the prado and not being covered by warranty... Maybe in 3 or so years.

I had the tyres supplied and fitted by tyrepower in croydon for $325 each. not a bad price, but unfortunately my rims are now showing scratches. The owner of the shop assures me that it is not possible that he has made the scratches. Take this as a warning to everyone, take before photos of all your rims before having tyres changed. i cannot prove thet the tyre shop caused the scratches...

Mav, considering that you are in the charity business; perhaps you could donate some 100% road going tyres to me?

when people people say they are quiet, they are probably comparing them to other mud tyres. Simex Centipedes, now they are a noisy tyre.

Nathan if only you were closer to Townsville then this would have suited you to a tee:

                      I guess its all relative.
I described them as "quiet" but I was not thinking of comparing them to road tyres. I was comparing them to other muddies I have had.
Having said this I just did 6000k on them and it did not take long for me to get used to them and didn't really notice them after a while

                      cheers

                        Nath,
I run the same tyres mate, but onlt fit them when I heading off the black top. I'm running a similar set to yourself minus the lockers ....you'll be rapt with tyres and lockers together.

Try the 2 tyre thing, but invest in a 2 tonne trolley jack and a 12V rattle gun. ARB sell them for about $90, takes me less than 1/2 hour to change all 5 tyres.
