I was thin king of doing the same with some extra 17X7.5 with 265/70 tyres as on my truck, however I was worried that there would not be enough drop on the canvas when the camper is erected as you have efeectively raised the height of the trailer.

    Have you experienced any issues?

Would love to here you thoughts....
My Tambo isn't due to be built until Feb 09, Keith will have the rims/tyres and will build it to suit. The only comment he's made so far is the width of the axle has to change to suit the rims. I'll ask about the canvas next time I speak to him, which is daily at the moment  If I was you, I'd buy the rims anyway and if you don't use them put them on eBay. At the price they are you can't go wrong. Here's what they look like.

I noticed my wheels are stamped 17x7.5 however the Toyota press site lists them as 17x7 for the same part number. Can someone who has also bought the wheels confirm the part number and size? This is what Toyota has listed 4261160440 17"x7" Prado 120 Series 2003 on.

Good call, I am currently having my Prado re-engineered to meet ADR's for having 265 / 70 / 17 tyres so it is legal and insurance also cannot worm out of any claims :P

I am pretty sure the engineer said they must be a minimum 7.5 inch wide rim for that size tyre to comply, Not sure if a 7 inch would cut it? One to be careful of..

They only come in 17x7.5, not 7" I'm almost sure. My local Toyo dealer also advised the press site is wrong (maybe it's a case of insufficient spaces or the extra ".5" characters).

Instead of fishing through the posts looking for people to make money out of, try doing the right thing and contacting a moderator and putting a post in the vendors section.

                Vendors section

Or even better, place a paid add... help pay for the server maybe...

I also suggest that you should go to some of the tyre centres and see what steelies have been been traded in for aftermarket alloys. You'd be surprised as to how cheap you can pick up a set of near new steelies for your Prado. That's how I picked up my second set of 5 for the MTR's, which are current model toyota genuine by the way. Mine worked out a lot cheaper than the offer being presented by doing it this way.
Black 2008 D4D GX, Bolle tint, Airtec snorkel, Hayman Reese tow bar, Staun deflators, ARB Air, front & rear extended diff breathers, Milford cargo barrier, Poly Air, 2" lift, XGS suspension, road tyres - 265/65x17 Grandtreks, play tyres - 265/70x17 Wrangler MTR's, ARB Sahara Bar, TMax 9000 winch, custom winch panel, Uniden UHF, Garmin 76csx with RAM mount, Eee PC with OZI, triple IPF 900XS spotties, rear ARB diff locker, Brown Davis underbody protection, Darren McRAE Auto Craft Rock Sliders

Re: New Toyota steel rims at half price

Well i thought i'd done my home work and gotten a reasonable deal on 5 toyota genuine steel rims for $132 each, alas after reading this post last night on nightshift was a tad worried re the alloy wheel nuts not fitting, got home this morning and was p**sed off to say the least to discover they dont fit! So how do i source the right size nuts without paying toyota? I think that really sucks that they will happily charge you that much cash then not mention that you also need to buy different nuts for them, @ $7 each if that previous quote is correct. B*stards!

I know most Toyota parts/service departments are run by goons but they are not psychic... they only give you what you ask for.

Any decent tyre/wheel place can fix you up with new nuts to suit the steel rims.

Fair call Mick, although i did explain why i wanted them and what i intended to do with them, ie change the complete tyre/wheel set up when i wanted to go offroad, then swap back to the at20's for around town etc. Anyway will go see them tomorrow and voice my displeasure and see what they can sort out for me, think i'll probably end up at the local tyre place where i got excellent service and a great price on the new bfg at ko's (premier tyres in broken hill, if anyone is interested) to go on the steelies.

Just an addit if anyone cares, went to local auto parts retailer this arvo and picked up new wheel nuts for the steelies for $1.50 each, that equates to a saving of around $160 on the genuine ones! they are probably not as fancy but i bet they'll do the same job, and now ive got an extra $160 to spend on other frivolities!

I tried my wheel nuts from the alloys on some steelies I picked up nice n cheap from fleabay  ($52 for 2 rims) and they seem to do up ok. I ordered another 2 brand new rims at $123 each and am still deciding which tyres to get. They will be either MTZ or cooper STT.
Can't wait to get them and take it bush and try them out.
