  • Chipped bead on new tyre

Just bought some new tyres for the Prado and noticed that one has a scrape/chips in the bead.

Not being a tyre expert I thought i would ask the thought of other members.
how much damage do you need to the bead before it would become unsafe or have a slow leak?

What do you think, I have attached a photo of the damage.

    Thanks

Looks like possible slow leak material to me.. I'm guessing thay are second hand? Looks like damage caused by tyre repair gear when mounting/dismounting the tyre on the rim.

Re: Chipped bead on new tyre

Yeah definitely take it back, that damage has been done by the tyre fitting machine when the fitter failed to lubricate the bead properly and get one side of the bead down into the well of the rim before rotating the tyre on the machine. It may not leak because the chipping is on the heel of the bead (they are a 5 degree taper) and the toe of the bead is wherre most of the sealing takes place but it is possible. Anyway it is a warranty job on the tyre fitters inability to follow procedures.
