how to secure spare wheel?

Our spare tyre was stolen last night. Just wondering what do Prado owners do to make sure this doesn't happen? Is there any other way to secure it apart from the lock? (Which the thieves removed).

Where abouts are you located. You should add that to your profile. Might also help us to keep on our gaurd if we are in the same area. I know there was a spree through the Sutherland Shire in Sydney about 6-12 months ago.

Me, well I have a plastic coated steel wire rope like a pushbike lock. Might not stop then but hopefully slow them down when all they do is smash the factory lock off.

High tensile chain and a quality pad lock. Wrap chain through the spokes of the alloy wheel and wheel carrier.

Get a chain for locking up motor bikes as they come with a plastic cover which will prevent rattles and wear marks on your alloys from vibration.

Not a 100% thieving scum proof but will make is less appealing.......

The same thing was happening around Alice Springs for a while. I know a guy at work that had both his arms with tyres attached removed from twin tyre carrier on his 100 series Landcruiser last year. He managed to get them off but didnt get the tyres off due to the steel wire wrapped behind the tyres. Ive also heard other people have lost tyres as well around that time. I use the Toyota factory lock for mine, I have also worked out a way to lock my arms on the twin tyre carrier I built to the rear bar. If you give theives the oppoirtunity they will take it. More so for dearer tyre brands and rims.
