    Re: Hunting for new shoes.

i use my stts as a daily driver.. i considered doing the same and getting a set of other rims.. but i would be shitty if the stt's went off because they sat in a shed and didnt get used enough. tyres dont have an unlimited shelf life.. any more than 6 years and they are cactus.. (wether you use them or not)

      Re: Hunting for new shoes.

      Hi Guys,

I got a quote for cooper ATR 265/65R17 at the price of $315 each for 4 tyres + wheel alignment. Does this sounds reasonable?
Any last second advice or things to be aware before I lock it down?

      Cheers,
      Louis

New tyres - advice and opinion on choices

Ok guys, it appears that you have much more knowledge than I will ever have about tires! What would be your top three recommendations (OEM size) given my top three priorities:

        1- Quite Ride
2- Grip in the soft sand (mostly desert around here)
3- Minimum of 50,000 KM service life

I would appreciate your help. Please keep in mind that we do not necessarily have all of the choices that are available to you Down Under.

        Cheers.

Re: New tyres - advice and opinion on choices

Anyone tried these things? They come in a 265/70/17 LT 10 ply rating, $295.00 in Cairns. Saw them fitted on a 100 series yesterday walking past a tyre shop, they looked pretty good. I have tried cheaper tyres (Fererals) on my Hi-Lux in the past and been quite happy with them.

Sold (and made?) in America by Multi Mile tyres, found differing opinions on you actually makes them, speculation they are made by Cooper or Goodyear.

            Anyone given these a go?

              Hi Snowy
I have these Wild Spirt tyres on my 120 series here in Cairns. I've had them for about 5 years, and done about 40 000k's and they are great. Have not slipped in them once, and they perform well offroad. $295 seems a bit dear for them though..

Has anyone heard anything about Genral Tires, specificall Grabber AT2? I was just ringing around getting prices for either Coopers or BFG's when a dealer threw in General. Haven't heard of them and a quick search shows they are owned by Continental. At $275 a tyre for 5 tyres, it beats the others by a fair bit.
If I'm going to spend the money I want something decent, but if I can find a number of positive reviews I might consider them.

                Cheers

A lot of the Landrover guys run General Grabbers so maybe check out their forums for opinions on them.

I was talking to a guy at City Discount Tyres who said there was still issues with booming from the rear using the 697's. I thought I read on here that some said that the 697's weren't as good on the tracks as the 694's. Can you let me know what your opinion is?

I have owned Mickey Thompson Baja STZ LT265/65-17
I highly recommend those, they been around about a year so its a relativly new design, very good grip all round, long lasting, looks great, quiet, it sound like what u want if u dont do much offroad, but still very good offroad.
Notably quieter than BFg a/t. O/d is 776mm.

I often use tirerack in the states website, it has feedback and servey results from millions of miles.
I remember seeing the general grabber ranked pretty high in it's category.
                                Google "tirerack servey results"
The 694's ranked pretty well also.
