Hi Guys,
I was looking at the spare wheel on my prado and noticed how close the rear windscreen wiper arm and the black curved piece of plastic at the bottom are to the spare tyre. Has anyone had dramas with mounting BFG's 275/65/17 on the spare rim and the tyre effecting both of these and more so the rear wndscreen wiper arm. I know the 275/65 are only slightly wider and taller but the BFG's have also got very square edges in comparsion to the Grandtreks.
Chris.
They probably will rub, a few guys have 275's they will fit but probably just.

There are a few reports of rubbing of the black plastic against the paintwork and where grit or dust has been on the plastic and road vibrations as well as the pressure from the tyre has rubbed the paint off. I've also found that I have a rubbish bag for the spare and mounting it can be hard with the tyre hard up against the door, so I have just mounted a Kaymar rear tyre spacer to prevent this sort of thing happening and will be writing it up in my build-up thread. Babs build-up thread has some pictures
Been pricing for a while now. Have just been quoted by Tyrepower in Bentleigh on both the 65's and the 70's. Evidently on special at the moment.

Thanks Damo, I just called a couple of tyrepower dealers only to be told they were 375-385 a corner. Then I realised at the bottom you wrote TYREPLUS as apposed to tyrepower above. Gave them a call and as you say, they are on a december special at $310 each for 70 series!. I will be ordering late December for a January fitment.

Bob Jane has matched Typrepower with $310 for the 70's. $55 whell alignment fee but free one after 5000 klms on return.
Evidently they are happy to match.
Cheers.

Got mine on Friday and they look a treat. Drove down the highway to Geelong and no road noise and better still my speedo seems to be more spot on. Previously it was under by about 4kph now pretty much spot on.
Just don't know what to do with the old set now which have all of 7000klms only on them. To keep or to sell??

I am in Brisbane and am wanting to fit a set of 265/70 or 265/65 to the Playdo. I best i can get is 379 / 325 respectively. I was really after the 70s despite then losing the use of the rear wheel cover.
I heard an add on the telly last night that Beaurepairs is having a 20% off tyre sales including 4wd tyres. Thought it might be good for anyone after descent tyres. Just had a look on their website and it seems to be limited to Dunlops so you can get 20% off grand craps at the moment when you buy two or more
Strangely the guy at beaurepairs told me he would not reccomend any of his tires for the Prado and that Jax are the cheapest for BFG in Qld. Seeing they had previously quoted me a higher figure I phoned another branch (Yerongapilly) instead and they will do it for $310 fitted balanced and old tire dumped for 265/70/17's
$300 difference to the next best price for the 5 and $600 difference between the top and bottom prices!
