    Re: BFG A/T Pricing

    I'd go the BFG's personally.
Having had a couple of sets before, I've found them to be a great alrounder that never ceased to amaze me in less than ideal situations. Quiet on blacktop (as they should be for AT's), high resistance to chipping and general wear from stones/gravel and great milage.
I haven't owned a set of Cooper ATR's but from what I've heard (here we go...), they are a good tyre too.

WTF i just got some yesterday BF 265/65/17 at BJ's morabbin for 320 each fitted and balanced and that was using my GE interest free thing. If i was paying cash they were offering 300 even. There seems to be a supply shortage however as he had to hunt around and get them from another deailer

        Re: BFG A/T Pricing

The Cooper Discoverer ATR has a poor history of tread de-lamination. I had one go at less than 2500km - one third of the tread came off in a slab. Had to replace another 5 after trip to Cape York. That trip was 16,000km plus the 2,500km on them before the journey. Lost 3 all up, including one that went whilst fitted to my camper trailer. I had them balanced and inspected and the tyre dealer said that they were coming apart from the inside. I wasn't prepared to leave the Coopers on the Prado so I replaced them with BFGs. Tyrepower wouldn't honour the warranty because they weren't used in a metropolitan environment, ie I had used them offroad.

I got my 2009 GXL fitted with BFGs at delivery and haven't had any issues with them in 28,000km - over half that on dirt. I also have BFGs on my camper trailer and never a problem with these in nearly 5 years.

Well doubleshot, we are now safely back home in Cairns. I have to say, apart from not having access into Lakefield from Musgrave, we timed it very well (by chance). Very little traffic to worry about and the roads were in pretty good condition. (well most of them). The only thing I'd suggest, is if you're planning on dragging a camper trailer, is not having it behind you on the northern part of the OTT. We camped at the Falls (Eliot and Twin) and did the track without the trailer due to some very tight situations on the northern part of the track to negotiate with a trailer. Plenty of water to have fun in but nothing to get concerned about. Walk the crossings first and you'll have no dramas. We did need to winch ourselves out of a section between Punsand Bay and the tip but we knew the road was a little boggy in sections. You can avoid this section from the Croc Tent. Enjoy the trip doubleshot and remember to slow down for the dips and floodways. Some very nasty washouts exist that managed to catch out a young Hilux driver unawares resulting in a seriously damaged car.

Make sure when you ring them for a quote they actually have them. I've been told from several tyre dealers thats it's a 3-4 week wait for 265/70/17 BFG AT's, but managed to find someone who had 4 in stock at Ferntree Gully. I am leaving to go to the rock in 2 weeks and after hearing about the wait thought i might have left my tyre changing a bit late!

I got mine for $330 a corner @ "Ace Tyres" in Tingalpa (Brisbane) at the start of June. They were the only ones that had stock of 265/65 R17.
Still waiting for my compressor though...

                        Cheers,

                              Re: BFG A/T Pricing

Prado was in getting a wheel alignment today after the suspension lift on the weekend. As my 265/70/17 ATs are getting down, probably 15-20k left in them, I wrote a note asking the Tyrecentre guys for a tyre price.
My wife gave them the note when she dropped it off, and they gave her the quote when she picked it up.

$385:00 per tyre.....  Must be adding a surcharge for the freight to such a remote country location......200 kms from Perth.....

I feel bad now asking my wife to do this, as even in this modern world, a still feel a tyre centre is no place for a female. But as I work out of town, I had to ask her to take it in for me.

Anyway, I still have a few months to keep looking.
                              Cheers
