  • Trade new tyres to who in perth.

Wondering if anyone knows of any tyre retailers in perth area that will buy grand treks. I have not picked my new car up yet so would like to trade tyres in brand new.
I'm planning trip up above Broome which has 400 k's of rough tracks and don't trust standard tyres. (nothing worse than changing tyres in the middle of nowhere. I think i'm going to fit bfg a/t as we have not had any trouble with bfg m/t for the last 6 years.
Might also go the steel wheel option and leave new rims and tyres in the shed until i sell the vehicle.

    Cheers Phil

    Phil,

try your local Beaurepaires... depending on who you talk to, you should be able to trade in your Grandtrek's and get something a little more suited to what you need...

Alternately, as you say - there is the option of a second set of wheels... I'm looking on eBay, regularly to pick up a 2nd set of rims at a reasonable price, to put some Cooper ST's or the like on, so I have touring/weekend wheels, as well as the Grandtreks for regular commuting...

Does anyone know if i have to order a special offset or are the 16 inch wheels all the same. Might try and get the black rims. (roh trak II)
What size tyre will fit without rubbing on anything , in the 16 inch size?

      Thanks for any help. Phil.

PS Still have to wait a week for me new d4d.

Yes I was wondering about that have heard some bad warranty cliams from other people. Still not sue if i will get them or not.
I'm not sure where landcruiser owners club got their imfo from but they have written-

'We have since been advised that Toyota Dealerships also conduct a similar modification to allow for aftermarket Alloy wheels to be fitted to New Vehicles.'

Wondering if anyone has more imfo about this statement?
        Cheers Phil

decent 17" rims or tyres suted for the Prado. Now you can
easilly get Prado 17" steels and 17" MTRs

            trade Grandtreks

Can't comment on your situation in Perth, but my experience in Sydney this arvo, might be of interest to you.
I rang 4 dealers, 2 gave me a trade in of $150 straight up. 1 rang back with a offer of $200. 1 has'nt rung back.
            Prices for 265/65/17, Bridgestone D694- $320, Cooper ATR $289-$290, BFG ATKO-$340.
For some reason goodyear Silent Armor are unavailable or they don't won't to sell em.

My mate also just bought prado 120 gx might see if i can get his old rims.
Just like the idea of the extra side wall height on the 16 inch rim.
They would ballon out better and absorb rough roads easier.
At a guess Wengnuts if you could get rims to fit with that sort of offset they might hang out the guards, but I could be wrong :?: .
              Cheers Phil

Bernie for me over here it is getting all to hard have rang around alot of places now with varing results. One shop said bring your car in and we will look at it then, i told the guy the grand treks are band new from the dealer to your shop, still wasn't anymore helpful. Can't get 694 at the moment or good year silent armour, no stocks for the later in aus. Can either get bfg at or mickey tompson mtx and at.
Getting to me question has anyone tried the mickey thompson MTX or AT, tyres out on their prados?
Been quoted 139 for bfg and 95 for mtx change over price.
                Cheers Phil.

FWIW, 12 months ago I traded my 100km (brand new) GrandTreks in for $200 each and got my ATRs for $274. That was at Hawkesbury Tyres and More. They've been quite helpful since.

Hahaha  Aren't we all? I've been looking for 6+ months now - geez they fetch a pretty price, especially the 17x7.5s. Did you see the 17x6s this week? They were sitting at $100 for 5 half an hour before closing - I bid $150 - they went for $244 :!:

I have been quoted $110 for King Wheels steelies - I can't see why some people are paying more than this for Toyota rims (ref: eBay last week, $400+ for four 17x7.5s!). I might ring around some wreckers on Monday and see what's on offer.

                    Sorry - getting off topic,

There were four 17x7.5s alloys with new GoodYear MTRs on ebay last week which went for $1500 with only 1 bid. Someone got a bargain...

Hi Wengnuts i missed your earlier post, my mate just bought 4 wheels for his new gx, and he got the price from tyre shop in rockingham 35 min south of perth. I will find out some details for you.

Has anyone had any Mickey tompson mtx tyres fitted to their prado's, still like to find out if they are any good. Or i'll have to go for bfg at's.
