  • Spare wheel carrier

    Hi all
I have just put larger tyres on the Prado and have a problem fitting the larger spare on the back door. Has anyone had the same problem and if so how did you get around it?

there are probably a few that have discussed this already around here and in lcool, but i think the general answer is to use some spacers to bring it away from the paintwork a little!

quick search should give you some answers or no doubt those that have done it will be able to let you know how big they were!

I have the perfect solution. I have tried a few different techniques, but the one I have ended up with works great.

Need to buy the white chopping boards from coles or somewhere like that and then drills holes that line up with bolts. The type of plastic used is very strong and will not allow the bolts to loosen after driving off road. 1 board per two bolts. Just use enough boards depending on how far out you need to bring the tyre

Will need to buy longer bolts from car accessories place (make sure they are metric fine not metric coarse)

      Any queries let me know

When we got our cooper ST in 265/70/17 we noticed that when they put the spare back on the door the rubber touched the paintwork..
The tyre shop has spacers (washers) and we just threw some of them on.

        No cost,.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

I had washers on before but because there is no give in them they come loose after a while. Especially if you have to put more washers on for larger tyres.

1/2 inch springs washers do the job, need about three on each after you remove the plastic shroud
