what to do with 17x6 rims and tyres?

Hey All, bit of newbie to 4x4 so would appreciate some advice.

Bought a Prado standard that has the 17x6 steel rims. Tyres are Savero HT Plus and are near new and in good shape (obviously not ATs).

Plan for use is going to be mostly family orientated on or near the beach: camping, fishing etc, and have plans for a couple of 4 day (tag-along) type trips within the next six months. I'm about to install bull bar, roof racks, roof tent, storage, duel bat, and fridge.

I have no particular issues with the tyres to date, however with limited 4x4 experience I am trying to decide whether I should:

A) replace tyres with a decent AT tyre (although choice is a little limited)
B) Buy 17x7.5s and an appropriate AT tyre (the choice seems better)
C) run the current tyres down, and then do (A) or (B)

And finally, perhaps a little off topic for this particular group - with the plans in mind, is it worth investing in upgraded suspension?

do what i did, ebay the 6 inch rims and go and get some gxl 120 wheels and a decent set of tyres, when you go 265/65/17 or 70 profile there are heaps of tyres to choose from, the only limit is how deep your pockets are. cheers samo

I also have the 17x6 rims on my GX and keep umming and arring about getting the bigger rims.

The bigger rims and tyres are a very good option and you do get a wide range of tyres. However, recently (last 6 months) there has been an explosion of 17x6 compatable tyres for the prado.
A year ago you could get, Grandtrek AT22, Grandtrek AT3, or Coopers in a 235x70R17.

Now you can get as above but also, Yokohama Geolanders, BFG's and Dueler 694s all great tyres.

For a bit of sand and so on I find my skinny AT3's are quite good. But next set... who knows, I might just byte the bullet and go the bugger rims but with the entry of the BFG's I might just get a set of those.
Sometimes it gets too hard to decide

Another member of the 4wd club also had the gx with the 17x6 rims.he too recently got the gxl rims and cooper stt??His vehicle,like Samo probably agrees, looks so much better with the wider rubber..

If you plan to purchase a camper trailer you could have it equipped with these rims. That way you have an ample supply of spares for that outback safari. Or simply keep tham as spares for the car if travelling without trailer - providing you have a roof rack to carry them.

I have 10 wheels and tyres for my Prado plus 5 for the camper trailer. Not that I would carry them all at once but they will interchange easily if necessary.
