  • How Comfortable in Rear Seats?

Majority of the time I'll be the only one in the car. But sometimes, I'll probably have one passenger at the back. Also, I will be sitting at the back, if I need to rest. While I am waiting to find a car to test drive, can any shorty owners tell me how are the rear seating?
According to reviews - it is roomy, but because of it is on top of axle, it is not the most comfortable location to sit on?
Also, how comfortable to be on them when you are off road as well?

Hi fatty boy. Welcome - good to see another 3-door prado on the forum.

You might also like to try and PM a few other members with this model, see: Anyone bought a ZR yet?

SOL is another good one to maybe ask. See: SOL's 150 shorty SX.

Three adults and a camper trailer in an SX.

We went from Melbourne to Darwin via the Flinders ranges, Oodnadatta track (and Lake Eyre when it was full), Kings Canyon and West Macdonald ranges, Katherine, Litchfield, Kakadu etc.

The vehicle is completely unmodified except for a dual battery.

It was easy to drive on and off the black top and was quite economical.

I only did a few stints in the back where I lay back the seat and slept in comfort. Neither of the others complained so I assume they were comfortable.

We put the Prado and camper on the Ghan and had a very comfortable return trip as well.

      Hope that helps,

      S.

Thanks NTP - read those posts before. SOL thread made me kind of depressed, with all the accessories he's been adding to his rig

Fatty Boy, Sorry for not answering but this is the first I realised you asked about a shorty. Mate what part of the world you in?
My SX is now in Albury with my brother. If you wanted to catch up and he could take you for a drive to try it for your self. We might be able to arrange something.

          SOL

PS thanks for the nice comments above.

I have only had a few adults in the back of my SX and so far no one has even mentioned anything about being uncomfortable.
I will have to make a point of asking next time.

SOL - I am in Sydney. Just updated the profile.

Also, thanks to Bassett for more info as well.

Finally, got a chance to see one in flesh. Still bigger than I imagined though. But sat in the back, very comfy and roomy . Just that boot space/luggage area is kind of small, espeically comparing to my xr6t . I got overnight bag fully loaded, a couple of jackets, pack of 12 water bottles in my boot at all time and still got penty of room .
Didn't get a chance to test drive though. I asked the saleman for a test drive and he wanted to talk about the price first. Fine by me - till he wanted 65.5 for 2012 demo with 2000km, registered in Dec, currently driven by the manager. Given that on carsales 65k driveaway for brandnew in QLD. Also, my fleet company quote is better than his. Just need to verify with the fleet to find out whethere the price that I got is drive away or with hidden cost.

Not sure why QLD got so many shorties for sales though. Currently, 4 in QLD

                G'day fatty boy,
Is that price for a ZR or an SX? If that's for the SX then that is ridiculous!! Way too much.

                Regards

OK. That is not bad then for the ZR.

Hi I too have the SX shorty and man does it draw the comments and looks ie I never knew they made a shorty .or where is the rest of the car but when they realize the towing and turning and fuel and parking they have another look .I have had adults and grandchildren in the back seats and there has never been any complaints .And yes I have been made to sit in them as well .I have found with the diesel auto you do need to do extra maintenance and up keep if you want to keep her for sometime .A local guy here traded his ZR 2010 and he was offered 45k so that means the SX maybe about 40K , that was with about 20K on the clock .He changed to the full body Prado as he found he coudn't do what he wanted with the shorty .Hope this helps Cheers Foxy

Thanks Foxy. Haha - like that comment as well.
I hope I don't regret like that guy did. The reason I want a shorty is well, I don't want a big 5 doors and I don't think I'll be needing that much space most of the time.
Now just have to make decision, whether to get 12/12 or wait another 3/4 months and get 4/13 And color as well. Was going to get black/ graphite, but bush bashing gonna scratch the car and on black they gonna show better than white/silver. So I leaned on lighter color - till found out that that's body wrap for the car. If I can get matt black done - I don't mind going for the darker color.

Yes We went for sandstone and had to wait 6months to get it With that colour the dust does not show up too much as it would on white or black .I have some battle damage and a few scratches but I got a couple of those scratch eliminator pens on Ebay and they do work but after a few washes they become visible but not as bad. get them for a few dollars Cheers Foxy

I have had a new ZR now for about 3 months and love it. I traded a 120 GXL Prado diesel and was surprised to see there is more leg room in the back of the ZR. The in laws said it is much more comfortable as well. Oh yeah with regard to the pricing issue I drove mine away for $60,050.00 (NSW), not bad. I also got a cracking trade price which surprised me as it was completely set up for 4wding and had just about everything in it and usually the salesman says because its been modified it will be less. Hope this helps.

                              Nice.
Yeah, I compared it against my next choice, suby foza XTP, felt that it has got less room in the rear. Not that it would bother me much but
                              Was it 2012/new model?
If the dealer is not stingy, asking what freebies he would be willing to throw in, I would have ZR hopefully by next week - finger cross.
