uhf cb radio which one

i want a cb radio but as im new to the 4wd scene i would like some advice on the pros and cons to brands and models

it will be going into a prado 150 gxl and i dont want to ever see it apart from the mic and i also want good range but still being able to drive into a underground car park without dragging the aerial on the roof of the car park

I have GME TX3540 mounted behind the dash. I was a bit concerned that I would need a remote speaker but sound quality is loud and clear. Remote mic socket is just below the dash on the driver's side (but you could put it anywhere). Just plug the mic in when you want to use it. GME has a wide range of antennas to to suit different needs, most of which are easily removable. I only put mine on when I think I will need it which also avoids damage/theft.

Icomm 440, hand-piece is more reliable than GME and speaker on hand piece too. Warning this toipc is done to death on other threads so may get locked.

Icomm 440, hand-piece is more reliable than GME and speaker on hand piece too. Warning this toipc is done to death on other threads so may get locked.

+1, speaker on the handset is very clear and loud.

honestly I would spend more time on the antenna and location as it will make the largest difference to the overall "value" of the solution. All the major UHF brands are good so it comes down to your specific requirements but consideration for the antenna will give you the best outcome

Yep i got the icomm 440 as well, inbuilt speaker in handset and more robust. Its a slightly bigger unit too, so if you have big hands/fingers might be easier to operate! Had it for a year now and haven't figured out where to mount it??

+1 for the Icom 440.

Be aware there are two models,

The "old" IC 440, 40 channel unit and,

The "new IC 440 N, 80 channel unit.

The old unit is not upgradeable, some sellers / installers still have stock of the old unit and will not tell you there is a new one available.

I've got an old school TX4000 which i bought 2nd hand back in '99. If i ever need to replace it, i'll go with another electrophone

Nothing better than GME.

Never had a problem with any of their units, and we've had a lot, well over 100 units.

(the prado has already had 5 in it actually; 1*3500, 2*3540, and now 2*3520).

I'd never use a radio with remote controls again though, they're horrible.
