  • Screen at front upper & lower grill

    hi people,

with out heating up the temps in all coolers , If so what & where fitted . thanks Dingdong (Derek)

I have always used fly screen mesh permanently installed behind the grill. You should see the mess a locus plague makes.

I use existing bolts and clips to secure it. Easy to hose off and after 40k radiator is still free of bugs.

I saved the steel mesh radiator screen from my 80 series cruiser when I sold it, and have now added it to the Prado.

I removed the grill from the Prado (just a little bit of fart-arsing about to do it) and zip tied the radiator screen to the back of the grill, then re-installed the grill.

The screen fits almost perfectly, except that I had to cut away a small section so that access could be made to the bonnet release lock. Sitting behind the grill, the screen is not noticeable, and it keeps out everything.

If I find that I am about to drive through a plague of locusts, I add a mesh screen to the front of the Prado. This will catch all the broken legs, wings, heads, but will not stop the squashed body parts from leaving a stain or two.

The mesh screen, along with the steel radiator screen, has not caused a rise in temperature on the gauge from what I could tell, though with the speed I drive, there is plenty of air flow to the motor.

Yup, made my own out of the 'Pet Mesh' they sell at most bunnings stores, figured since its scratch proof then itl be bug and stone proof too and I was right, have had it on for about 12,000 ks. Its worked so well ive even cut a small piece to go on the head of my snorkel and it shrugged off the dreaded Wait a While vine a couple of months back.
Good value for 20 something dollars a metre which was more than enough to cover the grill and bumper vents with a bit left over.
