  • Positioning of Accessory Outlets in Boot

I have just ordered a new 150 series and have made a booking for accessory outlets in the rear of the car.
My question is - what side do most people position their Fridges on?

In my current 120 series, I put my Engel on the driver side but have seen a few lately positioned on the passenger side for easier access into the fridge.

What side does the PP community feel is the best side for accessory outlets and therefore fridges?

My fridge was on the left in my Disco and will be in the Prado once the power is wired up.

Our work vehicles have the engels mounts on the left - presumably as it is quicker to access, don't need to open the door the entire way.

Quite a few PP'ers have fold down tables on the rear door. So the fridge would be better on the left in that case.

I've got mine on left but have power outlets on both sides as I run camping lights, water pump etc out of the back as well

Also, as I mentioned on another thread recently, make sure to get a mounted socket rather than socket directly on the wall panel. The latter means the plug goes in horizonatally and gets knocked easily and is in the way of packing things down the side. I had this originally, broke one plug and it was a general PITA so I changed it over to one like this:

mounted vertically. Can also get doubles.

I use a double like this, passenger side above the small door, fridge slide on the same side. The 150 rear door opens to the driver's side.

In the 120 we used to have the fridge on the left. So to put anything in the back meant opening the door all the way. And we found that using the frdge meant we usually oppened the door all the way anyway. This though meant the temp display and controls were up against the side of the car and were harder to use. The fridge went in with the motor/compressor at the back, obviously could have turned it around or pivoted the lid on the end etc but this was the most logical way of fitting it in. This time I have put the fridge on the right side. All the bits are easy to read and if you want to chuck something in there is no need to open the door all the way. Much of a muchness. As for plugs I use Anderson powerpoles.

In the Drifta draw demo video, Beechy says that certain fridges on the right side hit the top of the door when open (probably the larger waecos etc that are higher, not the ARB style fridges)..
