  • Indash Sat Nav for 150GXL

    Hello

I have just spent 3 hours looking at posts after posts and im more confused then ever so im sure this post will either get bumped or I will find my answers.

Start with one prado 150 series GXL 2012 I have looked at the VMS system to fit this but at $2995.00 I think its a bit over the top. My neighbour had bought a digi one off ebay for his hilux only to have so many problems with it cant see the sat screen in day light and so on.

What do I want a sat nav to fit there that all so I can use my reverse camera on it most I have seen have stereo's tvs dvd players and so on but with all reading have factory stereo and cd player what do I do with that one I think it would look way out of place having two stereos and im not sure if I can put any thing in the place where it already exists .

Thanks heaps in advance for your input crew ....Steve

That digi stuff is crap, I had so many fail it's not funny.

There is an aftermarket facia kit for the 150 to support a double din gpscombo.

I just put a clarion unit from north field in my navara. $1500 installed. Thing is awesome, off-road mapping, sundar live traffic, and every function works, unlike dig crap.

Very interested, we have a GX that does not have sat nav or reverse camera and want to install. Have had a look at Pioneer site and also had a quote for aftermarket from Toyota. Would like to hear other peoples opinions on what they have purchased or done and how easy was it to do? Thanks.

I have fitted a VMS and moved the factory info screen down the bottom where the standard stereo is.

My suggestion after doing this. DONT GET A VMS. They are just the cheap Chinese units. The radio reception is crap, even with an aftermarket antenna and signal booster fitted.

Had the adapter kits been available so cheap when I did mine I would've done a Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion etc.

Have a look at this post http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post419514

The Asteroid Smart runs OziExplorer and a bunch of other apps. You can buy it for around 500 online, works well and after 6 months very happy with it.

I just use my phone, got a cheap mount that sticks to the side of the top dash pod. Use oziexplorer for off road maps and the normal google nav when i need it. Also does bluetooth audio streaming to factory head unit.

Still working fine. Only down side is that radio reception is not as good as other units. Other than that very happy and still works fine.

                    Hey Krypto,

In the case of a 150 GX (no steering controls) and not having to relocate anything, would it have been so difficult to install?

                    Cheers,
                    Kevin

The steering controls were the main headache, the fascia is a 15 minute job. Also adapting the Toyota harness took a while, but there should be a plug and play adapter available.

Just installed one on my GX and it honestly took me 20 mins, dead easy with all the plug and play wiring.

That is freaking expensive for what it is... I'd pay a grand installed, because installation should be easy as. $800 uninstalled...

Awesome - I think given such positive feedback, the extensive review, cost, ease of install for GX (plus uninstall when lease is up in 2 yrs!!) and the fact I am an an Android fanboi, it will be hard to go past the Parrot Asteriod Smart.

                              Cheers guys.
