Novel Rear Storage Solution

As per my build thread, I built a single drawer for the back of my 150 GXL. The problem now exists whereby I have more "junk" (all of it useful) than I do storage.

I'm looking to install a larger capacity storage system, and want to do the work myself - I cant afford thousands for an off the shelf solution.

Does anyone have a "Novel" storage system installed? - Maybe that isn't just some drawers - I have thought of using a couple of under bed roller boxes and enclosing them all professional like...

NOTE: I'm not all that keen on removing the 3rd row seats, although if a compelling argument could be put forward, I might consider it.

If you don't use the seats why keep them in there? They take up a lot of space, about 125mm deep across the whole rear floor. Making up a base plate is quite easy, have a look at my build.

If you use one seat you can still do a single sided floor.

I don't have anything special, just use the flat base as needed. We have some plastic boxes which stack in neatly when we go camping otherwise it is just a flat floor with a fridge on one side.

Naturally this is removed and rear seats reinstalled several times a year as needed otherwise I would need to mod plate the Prado as a 5 seater...

Mainly, they are still in as I have nowhere to put them once they are removed. I would love the extra 125mm to be honest. It might be a stretch but you wouldn't have a template for the baseplate would you, or know where I can find one??

No template but it isn't hard to do once the seats are out. I simply made a centre line on the floor and then measured from there out. Give yourself a good 5mm clearance for the carpet down the edge and if you can rout the edge to let the carpet roll over more easily.

The seats come out in less than an hour. Mine are stored under the spare bed for those times when they aren't in the car.
