  • Prado 150 stereo change

Hey all I am new here, just wondering on some advice on a stereo change in my 150 I looking at single din cd player with my 2way under it speakers all round and just have a few questions.
1 what size speakers in the front door
2 is it easy to hook up an aftermarket deck into the old spot
3 would it be easier to buy a harness to go from old plug to new stereo if so does anyone know the one I would need.

and also is there anything else I need to be carful of when doing this like will I need spacers 4 the door or anything

    Thanks in advance
    cheers Trent

    Welcome to the forum.

Check out this thread for details on the double din dash panel, which gives you a Toyota sized (200x100 and slightly wider than everyone elses) double din slot in place of the factory reverse screen, assuming you have a pre-facelift GXL. If you have a pre-facelift GX then you already have this panel. If you have the facelift model your on your own...

There is an aftermarket double din conversion available on ebay which looks similar, but IMHO the Toyota one is worth the extra $50. The ONLY advantage of the aftermarket one is that it comes with the brackets to mount the radio, if you purchase the genuine one you need to get this bracket separately but it wouldn't be hard to fab something up and since you dont see it, it doesn't need to be pretty.

You would then need a Toyota to ISO harness conversion to extend the wires to the top panel. Wiring the thing up would be fairly trivial if you use one of these. The only gotchya I can think of (if you have a GXL or higher model) is the reverse camera is 6v not 12v, so if you are putting in a deck with camera support you need to ensure it has a 5-6v out to power the camera, but I think most have these now anyway.

As for speakers, I like my factory ones enough to not bother changing them so I will leave that info for someone who has.

This is all assuming you want to locate the radio to the top panel and replace the OEM with storage bin (again assuming you have a GXL), if you want to leave it down the bottom you will probably need a custom dash panel as I am not aware of any conversion kits for the lower slot.

If you hit the search function you will find plenty of info from people who have already done this or something similar.
