  • Nudge bar for Prado 2014

    Hi all, I'm new here.

I decided against a bullbar (as none really look good on the new model, and I don't really drive fast, or at all, at times the roos are foraging.) So nudge bar it is.

Can anyone suggest one that fits to the chassis at 4 points, not two? The Toyota one is ugly and useless, so had a look at the ECB one but it looks it is fixed to the car only by two brackets at the bottom. This makes it prone to bending inward if someone hits your bumper, even in a car park, right?

Been around my local Opposite Lock, ARB and others but I had the impression they either didn't really know, or making it up. I don't think they fitted any yet.

    I'm in WA.

I have the install instructions for ECB and its mounted to a bracket the has 6 bolts, including 4 for the bar. Looks secure to me, but it doesn't matter how many bolts the bar uses as the inherent design of all nudge bars will cause it to bend anyway. They aren't really for protection, more for looks and mounting point for light weight accessories like small lights and aerials.

Good compromise is the TJM Sahara bar, best looking bar for the prado imo plus TJM replace the inserts not cut the bumper, so you can always go back to original if you want

Expensive compromise! But agree on looks.

Is the bumper different on facelift models? Maybe they haven't made the inserts yet

Thanks but Parkside sell ECB nudge bars. I'm after something else.

You're right, 6 bolts. I have the install sheet too.

3 bolts on each side - 2 to fit the bracket to the chassis, and just one bolt to fit the bar to the bracket at the bottom. Looks piss weak to me.

I'm after a bar that has brackets at the top too for rigidity - the ones I've seen on other cars have a bracket between the bumper and grille, or thereabouts.

Apart from costing 5 times more, and have to butcher the bumper, it is the best looking bullbar out there IMO. But still, it does not match the newer Prado styling. It looks great on older, and more conservative looking 4x4s though. That's the problem with generic bullbars, they can't match the styling of all cars. If I was only using the car in mining or agriculturally, I probably wouldn't mind. I'm a bit anal on aesthetics as I come from a design background.

Ok, I've got the pre facelift model and they use inserts then colour code them. As far as design goes, in my opinion I think they do suit the pre 14 models, only because they don't conflict with the droopy headlight design. However I agree with you on the new version, but I don't blame the manufacturers, they are supplying a bar for protection first, aesthetics second. Toyota had a neat looking nudge bar for their klugers, shame that wasn't available

Agree with you there Reggie. I don't blame 3rd party manufacturers at all. Shame Toyota's bull bar is hideous on the '14 model.

Having said that, since there seems to be a lack of 3rd party nudge bars for the latest model, I'm having second thoughts on the Toyota genuine Nudge Bar.

Anyone knows whether I can fit lights securely to it? Is the bar itself solidly made and have rigid brackets? Can I install myself or do I have to cut the bumper too?

Will got to the Toyota dealer tomorrow but I doubt they'll have one in stock to have a look.
