  • Best UHF / Aerial combo for '12 150 series

    Hey Guys,

What recommendations for UHF / Aerial combos / install locations in vehicle people have & pro's and con's of the mounting location.

G'day Beepa, I had my aerial mounted on the spare wheel carrier on the back of my last car and it was great. couldnt mount it there this time as there is no room behind the wheel on the 150 series and so I mounted it on the bullbar and now the missus complains 'cause it's right in the middle of the passengers line of sight.
might have to make a bracket spacer behind the wheel to mount it to, otherwise I'll never hear the end of it.
I just use a std 6db aerial and 80 ch uhf, but you can get a switch and use two aerials, one lower and one higher gain db depending on if your in close range or longer distance
    Good luck Gaz

Ive got a ICOM IC440N UHF (Installed under passenger seat and run to blank switch) hooked up to a RFI CD933 Black UHF Antenna.
Couldn't be happier. Under the seat is a sturdy location with easy accessible power and i had my handset clip install in the console so very easy to run to from under the seat.

Yeah, that install is neat as. just what i was looking for. i see a lot of people have them mounted in the centre console etc, but then u can't hear the unit unless the lid is lifted depending on the UHF unit.
i'll investigate the install under the seat to the port i rekon.

          Thanks,

My aerial is mounted on a knockdown bracket on the awning. It removes the aerial from the missus' field of view and doesn't vibrate like crazy on the bullbar. I now only need a rubber ducky antenna up there as the performance of the UHF is much improved being up high and not attenuated by the steel of the body.
