Hi all previous member with a 2009 150 series and now have a 2014 150 series. Have decided to go for a new 1900mm Pioneer and remove the rails on the GXL I am interested to get some feedback from members that have done this and some pics to see what it looks like. I am an expandasdownunder.com member so there might be some friends here. Just after some advice and feedback re the pioneer. Have decided the following as per the attachments

The Pioneer Platform rack is a very popular rack. You won't regret it.

What are the benefits/downsides of removing the rails vs attaching direct to these? I'm just curious as tossing it up also.

For me there is no down side, on the plus side is it has a lower profile and is rated to take more weight when mounted on the rhino legs instead of the rails.
I have the awning bracket as pictured in the first post, strong heavy duty mounts, the shovel mounts are also good. As with all Rhino accessories they are not cheap.

What's the advantage over the rail or leg mounting? I wonder if they can be retrofitted to the rail mount version.

I find that the Backbone restricts access to the underside of the platform when I want to pass straps underneath.

That was my first thought too Andrew. I run Cam buckle straps under my platform to tie down my tent etc and these would be a PIA

if you're in WA (not sure on other states), AutoOne stores currently have 20% off Rhino products.
about to head down to order my platform and SX legs to attach to the rails.

Is it 20% off ALL Rhino stuff (can you order in?), or just a selection?

                          downside is obviously money.
factory rail with pioneer platform will let you carry up to 75kg.
but you with legs you get to carry extra 25kg total of 100kg
I would definitely opt to go with legs. at the end of the day you are getting roof rack/basket to carry items on top.

Removed the factory rails on mine. Wasn't hard.

Wonder if the backbone sits lower than the Rhino RLCP legs, looks as so it does in the pic.
