Roof rails as in North/South rails or roof racks the are affixed to the rails? Never seen a platform that is no higher. The Pio platform would be close if you removed the north south factory rails and replaced with the mounting feet.. Some one on here should be able to provide the heights above the roof line at the 3 fixed points.

Yes, remove the factory rails, replace with feet and a platform, but have it no higher than the original rails

For a bit of flexibility get three sports bars and attach. Great for surfboards, ladders and timber.

A couple of extra rails come with the pioneer platform that would connect to 'legs'. Bolt the extra rails into the platform for extra strength.

Drill two 8mm holes through each sports bar and throw the pioneer platform on top and bolt down with extra locking tabs from Rhino.

Throw your bag and tyres on top and go anywhere. Always tied extra straps over the load through the platform direct to the bars. Over 200 kg on top for most of the trip, no problems.

Easy change from platform to bars. Best of both worlds.

Nice job and good lateral thinking! Not sure about the 200kg on the roof though, isn't the Prado roof only rated to 100kg?

Backbone is apparently 8-10mm lower than using the legs, it all adds up in city carparks!

Have to be some pretty low car parks to worry... Just measured mine. Almost 3" lift at rear, and to top of eyebolt on platform is under 2100. Never had a problem in a car park yet.

Makes it even worse when they put speed bumps and low roof sprinkler pipe fittings on an already low roof!

Platform on legs, lift and 265/70, I just get in 2100 but I have to remove all mounts (shovel, maxtrax, eyelets) from the platform. My antenna is the gauge, if it fits, the so does the Prado (with mounts).

Reckon mine will be very similar Kenny. Like the idea of having the antenna "whiskers" as the gauge....

I have a lift and a Pioneer Platform on the factory rails with an awning permanently mounted, I still fit in all the 2m car parks in Melbourne so far. Only problem I've ever had is scraping the awning bag on those warning beams and only in 1 car park (Knox Ozone near the cinemas) because it's hanging down on one side.

Works well, especially with the afore mentioned speed humps/sprinklers.

G'day guys, I'm looking at the pioneer platform as well, and have found this thread giving me a bit more insite, as to making a decision. It's a bit of a hard call on which to get, the sx mounts or the backbone.. I think the backbone would better suit my needs, although more a permanent method of fixing to the vehicle.. Was wondering how hard it is to remove the rails, and fit the platform yourself.. Read on another thread, needed to drill holes in the platform to screw it together? thought it would come in one piece, anybody aware of this? the backbone system is different from the photos earlier in the thread with the 6 feet.. But the photos do look very nice and a very neat job.. Looks slick! Think those photos have me sold! Any more info anyone wants to share on the subject would be much appreciated.. Thanks guys.. Cheers Odog
