2014 GXL adding a Pioneer Platform

From what I understand the earlier platforms had to be drilled, a bigger rack can also be fitted if drilled, but the recomended size rack now comes 80% assembled and pre drilled. The hardest part is removing the plastic trims on the factory rails, everything else is easy. I would guess the whole job could be done in about 2hrs the first time you did one, need a second person to help lift it on the roof though.

Yes, when they first came out, you had to drill and pop rivet. Requires a long handled riveter. Now the planks are bolted to the cross bars.

When mine was installed the guys had to drill to attach the cross rails that the feet attach to, the platform itself came pre-assembled.

Had a look at the backbone it also increases capacity to 120kg but seems to only be available for the largest platform 2100 long which l was steered away from due to extra noise being more noticeable. Has anyone put on the pioneer sx platform that bolts to the original rails at nearly $300 cheaper. Would be interested to know anyones thoughts and if anyone has put one one what the height it adds.

The above rating isn't quite right as the roof capacity specified by the manufacturer is 80kg with roof rails, 100kg without roof rails.

However, to get the 6 feet cheaper, get the 3 bar HD set from Toyota and sell the 3 bars.

Say that you sell the 3 bars, you will end up with very similar pricing for the 2 types of platform but you will get 20kg difference in carrying capacity.

Hi All
I fitted my platform on the legs and it took me 2.5 hours to remove the original rails and fit the platform. As I wanted to get it finished tonight and had no other hands to help I ended up getting the platform up and mounting it myself without no damage to the roof. Was a bit of a mission but it can be done. Can't wait to tie some gear up there instead of having it in the vehicle.
