Snorkel on new prado GXL 2.8 Diesel experience and opinions

Buying a new Prado 2.8 diesel. Thing about getting a snorkel fitted - has anyone done this on the new Prado 2.8D and what is experience re noise and wind noise. I Do a fair bit of 4wding not a lot of water crossings generally.

Looking for some quick advice.

I havent fitted a snorkel to my 2.8 but cant imagine the wind noise would be any different to the 120.

Induction noise I dont know about though, lower compression in the 2.8 - less induction noise perhaps?

The wind noise isnt really noticeable once you have it on anyway. Your engine is a bit quieter but you get bigger benefits from the snorkel than cost of wind noise imo.

please let us know what your experience is with a snorkel, I will be looking for a snorkel in feb for a new 2.8litre Prado...and also interested in what others experience...hopefully someone can shed some light for you

Snorkel Opinion

Thanks people - Paddy what was the snorkel like for wind noise etc. Also I believe the door seal sits over the retaining clips, is that any isssue??

I have a Safari fitted to my 2.8, no noise with window closed. A nice gurgle with the window down tho

Fitted two weeks after buying the vehicle, so not sure if noise increased. To be honest I don't hear much background/outside noise once the radio is going and the windows are up. I am in the northern suburbs if you need a hand or want to check it out, trueblue.

Similar to what Ryan said - no wind noise when the windows are up, but can hear it drawing air when the Windows are down

Safari screws don't sit under the door seal. I helped a friend with a TJM snorkel and it had a bracket that mounted on the seal face. Ugly mess and the dealer used self tappers too so they had rattled loose. Pick your snorkel and your installer carefully.

Fitted a safari snorkel to my 2.8 a couple of months ago. Here are my thoughts:

- No wind noise whatsoever.
- Significant induction noise when idling at/around 900rpm (which seems to be most of the time) Silent when idling at/around 700rpm.
- Significant induction noise when accelerating, but can't hear it at all when windows are up.
- Possible increase in fuel consumption.

Installed myself. Easy job with a nibbler (I think). Easier than Navara or Pathfinder, FAR easier than Pajero.
