  • Mounting UHF under drivers dash / steering wheel

    Hi All

I am looking to mount my Uniden UHF unit under the drivers side dash. I found a post which i am thinking is used for the manual gear lever that will fit the bracket for the uniden radio, i can then attach the radio as per my photos.

From what i can see the radio will not touch anything, possibly the foot air vent but i can live with this. Is there any other issue with mounting it in this position?

It provides easy access for the future, and easy to mount.

I have been looking at mounting in this position too. Local radio supplier recommended this position as there is a bracket which you can attach the cradle to under the dash. Problem is, I'm not confident pulling the dash apart as there is a knee air bag Under the steering column.

Has anybody who has done the install under the dash any advice for pulling the plastic fascia off?

I put my Uniden remote unit under the centre console next to drivers side left leg. It's not bolted in. I simply slid it up under the plastic from underneath. been there for nearly 7 years without a problem. Mike lead comes out through the top of the console. Power cable runs from cigarette lighter.

I put my Uniden under the dash, mounting it on a Mecchano like bracket I made up from Bunnings. It worked well. When I upgraded to an 0 channel I just placed it inside the front of the center console.

I tried to squeeze in a GME remote display unit in our MY15 150 GXL down above the transmission tunnel and found it didn't quite fit - I think Toyota have added some brackets because it didn't match the photos I saw elsewhere.

I found that if you take out the heater controls then the storage bin you can mount it onto the heater box -there is a piece stuck to the back edge of it which seems to have no effect apart from holding the top section together with a clip. So you can "trim" the bottom part off leaving a great big hole.
