    Re: Arb sahara bar

    Hi Adam

You may also want to have a look at the TJM offering as it is quite similar to the ARB in looks.

        Hey guys,

Bar looks good!!! Ive been told here over here in Perth will have to wait till like July to get a bar. Just also wondering if anyone has a graphite colour coded bullbar fitted as wondering wether or not to get it done, if so could you please post a picture of it if you do thanks. Also what colour is just the standard plain bar???

          Re: Arb sahara bar

          G'day guys,

Disappointing to hear of the poor workmanship by ARB. However I had an ARB Winch Bar fitted last Thursday and am more than happy with the Bar and the quality of the fitting. I have a white 150 and went with the Black Bar. I was initially going to get it color matched but was actually told by the guy when I first ordered it that there were some problems with the color match on some cars, specifically the Crystal Pearl, even though my car was white I still decided not to take the risk. I found I actually like the Black on the white breaks things up a bit.

I left the car with them for a full day, at their request, they said that they had not fitted many and wanted to take their time with the fitment to ensure the right job. The wiring is neat and the finish around the body is trimmed neatly.

I am certainly happy with the result. I haven't really noticed the slight shadowing, though no doubt it probably exists, as upgrading from the Jackeroo makes it feel like I'm driving in daylight.

We took the car out on Saturday and put it through its paces with a 4x4 course. I went from Manual to Auto so figured I would do the course again, well worth it as it gave me a good idea of what the car was capable of in a safer environment. It rained all day so getting to do it all in the wet was interesting, car is stock standard at this stage apart from the Bar. There were no problems with the Bar whatsoever, approach angle was good.

            Hi there
Well an update on the problems I had with my arb bar. Went to arb todat to discuss the problems. I told them that I wasn't happy with colour of the paint work and was told that this is quite a good match compared to others that they have seen. I asked if this was good then how bad is the bad!! I was informed again that it is colour coded not colour matched so the bar is painted to the colour code and they will not do anything about it. The hole in the weld, I was told that they are sure that it will not rust (I'm not convinced at all) and if it did that they will be happy to repair this. As for the wiring the manager admited that it was not up to standard and and offered to fix it up on the spot. I asked about shrink wrapping the joins and said they have never done it on any cars, they are only taped.
As I said earlier I think I should have done it myself then there is only one person to blame if its not a good job!!!
            Thanks

That is Cr@p, write to head office, when they paint they should use the actual paint code and it should be almost perfect, as far as i know they powder coat out of the factory and colour code by painting which should match, it is a shame that some cowboys give the ARB name a bad experience. Personally my service down in brissie with ARB is first rate. my last ARB bar matched perfect, and that was a yankie jeep colour.

                BAR JIGGLE

I have been noticing how the winch bar jiggles compared to the body, it seems that the bar requires some gussets to stop this.

Any comments ? My 100 series did not have this problem and it is quite irritating as you drive.

                Regards

The body of the Prado is mounted on rubber bushes - the jiggle on the 120 series (assume the 150 is the same) is actually the body moving, not the bar which is attached to the chassis. If you tied them together to stop the shake they would tear each other apart.

Yes I know that but it is a sideways jiggle.

So your Prado has a bit of a giggle every now and then? Is a sideways giggle similar to a sideways glance?

                          Re: Arb sahara bar

My father inlaw had the same problem with a hole in the weld on a brand new ARB winch bar fitted to a hilux. It is black not colour coded and within 6 weeks of it being fitted a rust stain started coming from the pin hole in the weld. It was later fixed, not by the installers and at the father inlaws cost.
It would be worthwhile taking your issues to the next level within ARB so that the problem gets sorted quickly. Being a sparky by trade, it has to be said, that their attempt at wiring is very poor and its no surprise they offered to do a half fix on the spot.
Being that you are from Mackay, the word is out on the service from ARB in that area. Correct me if I'm wrong on the location?

The bar jiggle is really annoying so I pulled the under-body panels off to have a look today.

I will have to live with it as it is is the design. There is a flex / crumple zone on the bull bar mounting.

                                Hi guys,
By the look of the photos Derek has supplied it appears that the deluxe bars do not have recovery points either side to attach bow shackles as other ARB bars used to have underneath or atleast mine did on the 80 series. Is this right? I know there are cut outs for high lift jack lifting but it would be a bugger if there are no points to attach a shackle to.
Can anyone let me know please my bar shouldn't be too far away I hope.
                                thanks
