  • Genuine 150 bullbar pricing

    Hi all,

    I was considering adding a genuine toyota bull bar to my new silver glx D4D auto prado being delivered in Jan 2011 and i have been quoted several prices the best so far is $3000 fitted from city toyota can anyone tell me if they have had a better price ?

    You're better off with an ARB or TJM bullbar which looks better and costs less. Doing it after delivery will also mean not having to pay LCT on the bullbar, but your financial circumstances may be different (lease car?).

      I would go for the Ironman. It is hammered finshed with stainless tubes...easier to clean. $1650 fitted.

        I have just received my 150 GXL this week with the genuine bullbar on it. I would have liked a ARB bar, but as it is a fleet vehicle I had no choice. I can't tell you how much it was as it was a fleet purchase, but it certainly wasn't cheap.

        However, I was very hesitant in getting it because it looks ugly in photos.

        It was a pleasant surprise when I got it to find it doesn't look too bad after all. Everybody has commented on it and likes it. Another member of this forum who has a 120 with an ARB bar even said how good it looks - it certaintly has plenty of bling. It does look better in real life.

        I haven't had it long enough to find flaws in having it - will keep you posted.

            I will post some pics when we get back home on Wednesday.We are really happy with the bar and it looks good. The price makes it even better.

                The Toyota bar is for city slickers.
                The steel bars from ARB/TJM are for tourers.

                Looks aside, they have their pros and cons.
                The Toyota bar is lighter, not as strong and doesn't improve approach angles.
                The steel bullbar is heavier, stronger and improves approach angles.

                I saw a Kakadu stopped at the lights next to me with the Toyota bar. I noticed that the wraparound is just a layer of aluminium and black plastic over the existing bumper. It doesn't appear to be much strength if there was an impact at the headlights. But if the impact was in between the headlights, then there would be protection. However, this would be good as it is the crumple zone when you hit a pedestrian and softens the blow. But not much good out in the country.

                    Definitely sure. If you see photos of the 150 prado in the exterior accessories section on Toyota's website, you will see that the front bumper goes up the wheel arch. A complete bumper replacement will never happen with that sort of bumper design. You can also see just under the headlights where some of the front bumper panel is retained when fitting the bullbar.

                    The wraparound on the bullbar definitely has a bit of the original bumper underneath.

                      I would say opposite:

                      1. The geniune bullbar is for those who expect it to work
                      2. Say, ARB bullbar is for those who cares how does it look like. It's more like a fashion.

                      WIth some exceptions of course - if you have to improve approach or you need a winch.

                      I got genuine one for two reasons:

                      1. To avoid blame game in case of warranty claim
                      2. To protect myself on tours.

                      These days such a car has more protection than just a body mass and a steal around me. There is lots of electronic stuff, there are airbags and there is a body which has to break correctly saving people inside
                      at the cost of all the rest. Having harder front (more rigid) not always means better protection. To see how it works it must be tested.
                      Obviously genuine bar is tested and shouldn't interfere with airbags timing and iginition, won't interfere with active sitbelts and headrests and won't interfere with body strenght.
                      You don't have to be hit by something to due. It is enough if deceleration is too strong. Rigid bar means higher deceleration.

                        I agonised for a long time over which bull bar (3 months).

                        I went Toyota for two reasons,

                        The large airflow through the bull bar. The intercooler is now in front of the a/c radiator and the driving lights will reduce the airflow enough with out having small air flow openings in a bull bar.
                        Secondly the aerial mounts, yes it comes with two standard, are outside the verticals. Most of the other bars are inside the verticals and closer to your line of sight, or slap bang in front of your passengers line of sight.

                        It looks better in the flesh than in the photos. I spend every second Friday driving until midnight in the country. The first 3 months I was quite uncomfrotable and about 20kph slower.

                        Hopefully it will perform as well as the sovereign (7 years 265000 K's) two big roos although I was able to get a lot of speed off before impact and numerous wallabys that continually reshaped the number plate into the winch mount.

                          Toyota says it fits on Kakadu. I've been told that the reason why high profile bar was unavaliable around April this year was because they addressed this problem and reshaped the bar to fit. However, I haven't got Kakadu so I can't tell for sure :P

                            There is another thread somewhere in Pradopoint that shows a Toyota bar after it hit a large roo. The bar was completely deformed and the radiator destroyed, resulting in a tow back home. The Prado was out of action.
