  • Towing Mirrors

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of our 2011 Prado (due next week and can not wait) , and then setting off on some caravaning (21` Jayco Westport) as soon as possible afterwards.

I have done a lot of reading in regards to towing mirrors that suit the 150 series Prado. Everyone has ther own preferences and this caused me some confusion as just as I make up my mind , in regards to the mirrors that I think will be best then I read some posts / information from someone highlighting some down sides to that particluar mirror set up.

Our main goal is to be as safe as possible in regards to seeing what is down the side / behind the caravan while towing , mirrors that do not move while travelling (vibration / traffic going the other way) and ones that do not damage the Prado in anyway while they are fitted (paintwork , window glass & rubbers , door trim etc...)

I had finally made the decision to spend the cash and get a set of Cleaview mirrors only to find out that they will not be available for the 150 series until next year?

I would value the opinion on other Prado owners who tow caravans to get their thoughts / preferences.

    regards

    Mark

Don’t get cheap, you will regret it. I have one that straps to the side of the door with its own A frame. Google “AUSSIE TRUCK DOOR MIRROR”

      Re: Towing Mirrors

      Mark,
I tow a 6m Coromal and use the truck mirrors. I find them really useful and stable etc. It depends on the model prado you are getting but I have dismissed the Clear View as I believe you lose some of the functionality of the current mirrors. The caravan is not on the car all the time and so why have a set of mirrors that will restrict your options all the time for the small time you are towing

          Re: Towing Mirrors

          Hi Mark and Stella,

We have a set of Aussie Truck Mirrors and can't fault them after 10000kms of towing our full van.

Very stable and they don't 'blow back' like some of the others on the market.

Vision to the rear corner of the van is good, and the standard 'bottom clip' is OK for the 150's door.

Repco had them on sale at the time we purchased.

Be carefull of cheap Chinese copies for sale on the web.

          Cheers,
          Ken and Kristine

            Re: Towing Mirrors

Quite happy with my ORA Mirror mounted mirrors with the Jayco Eagle Outback. I had the Aussie Truck mirrors, but they were damaging the window rubbers.
I don't believe the comment above regarding the Clearview mirrors is correct.... (but willing to hear other opinions) I think the top section retains full auto adjustment, and the bottom section is a wide angle mirror, manually adjusted.

I am seriously considering the Clearviews.

              Re: Towing Mirrors

thanks to all for the replies.

Signature035 , I believe that you are correct in regards to the clearview mirrors , (top is operated on vehicle electrics and bottom is manual)

Having read a lot of information and personal preferences in regards to mirrors , I was a bit concerned with rubber , window or paint damage with some of the mirrors , while some people swear by a certain mirror others have problems with the same mirror? The Cleaview was going to be my preference , but was told that they do not do a mirror for a 2011 (150 series) Prado yet , possibly next year?

              regards

              Mark
