  • My mud flap saga

As the rear mud flaps are too short, I thought I would just extend them. I had a couple of old mud flaps lying, cut them to suit the profile of the body curve. I only fixed them with self tapping screws, thinking that if they ever got caught the screws would pull out easily and not rip or damage the original or extended mud flaps. This didn't work too well, the first one fell off half way up the Hay River track and the second was missing by the end of the track. Made a second set, used nuts and bolts this time. Went 4Wding at Glass House Mts yesterday, guess what, when backing up a badly eroded section of track I managed to get the mud flap caught between a big rock and the tyre. The nuts and bolts did not give and I ripped the mud flap in two, the flap section right off the car, the back section that is part of the rear bar stayed attached. I wonder if Toyota will still cover the replacement of the mud flaps with longer ones under warranty?

Can't you say that you had to do some DIY extensions for a trip while waiting for Toyota to release the new mudflaps?

I would have thought they will update them under warranty. They are a whole new flap that doesn't use any of the existing flap components. They will just be throwing the original flaps away anyway.

Yes, Toyota will replace them under warranty. And paint the rear ones to match your bodywork

            My mud flap saga

Toyota fitted the new longer mud flaps today, and guess what they didn't worry about the one was ripped in half.
The new flaps as well as being bigger have a different profile, they are further away from the tyre and there is a stress point built into the rear ones which allow the flap to bend about half way down. With my 50mm lift there will still be some gravel rash to the rear bumper.
I will give them a good workout in the Kimberlys for the next 4 months.

Well I have justr been to Toyota and they refuse to replace them under warrenty as there is "not enough damage" I told them the bumper has just been replaced so wanted it to stay with "not enough damage" but they still refuse to change them. they have taken photos to send to toyota for review. I will be calling them next week to express my dissatifaction.

Maybe in your head it is, but for us with 150's and no replacement mudflaps yet its still an issue.

Picked up my new 150 this week and still has the old mudflaps on it. Thought extra rubber in Japan wouldn't be an issue.....ill check with Toyota when I head that way next !

Had mine in for 10000 service in Newcastle and told that, "there are no new mudflaps". Guess we just wait and see. The new Prado awaiting delivery had the short mudflaps.

I have tried a few dealers with no luck. When I pushed hard it seems that there is a new part number but there is no stock.

I asked during my 30K service in June and was given a heap of dribble about them not being available in Perth until August due to the limited numbers available and as yet no ADR approval. Just the usual excuses from the service department.
