  • Heat shield rattle

I've had this metallic vibrating noise coming from underneath . I got under and reckon it's the exhaust heat shield as it vibrates when you give it a hit . Anyone else got this problem ?
    Cheers

Yup between 900 and 1300 RPM, squealing sound. Put you foot on the exhaust and it disapears

Lurker it's a metallic sound , not a squeal . The dealer has reduced but not eliminated it . It's a silver coloured shield that's mounted on the body over the exhaust .

Im so glad to find this post, the noise is driving me mental. I have found the guilty heat shield now how do I fix the sound I checked all the nuts and they are all tight what did others do to fix it. Would appreciate any advice.
        Thanks,

          Bell,

I assume the plate is not bent and close enough to the car to rattle at that frequency?
If it is, perhaps straightening it would help.

Yeah I'll give it a go. I was thinking of putting rubber washes behind the heat shield, any thoughts?

are you sure it is the heat shield causing your rattle? In search for my rattle I also identified this as a possible cause, but it turned out it was the plastic fixing points in the inner wheel guard. There is lots of things that rattle when you bang your fist on it, but most you wont hear in the car

Definately the heat shield for me. I've been thinking for ages that it was a baffle. But after the rude young deck hand commented over the radio "you should hear the noise this things making!) I thought right. I better do something about this!
Had a look this morning and the shield was rattling away loosely on the catty. I can't see what would mount it firmly. Ill pull it off when it cools down and see if there's some sort of mount inside it. In the mean time I've twisted it around which has worked for now but leaves the drain holes on the side rather than the bottom.

I've had this rattle for a while too, been driving me nuts. Had the car serviced today and they have identified that this is causing the rattle but don't know how it can be fixed.
Anyone had any luck in fixing this since the last post?

Guys thanks for your replies . I think now that it's not the heat shield , it may be coming from the dash area . It's a metallic bzzzz bzzzzz sort of noise that's more aparrent when the engines maybe labouring a bit causing more vibes through the body .
There's a post re removing the A/C control unit from the dash but I don't quite understand the instruction that you just grip it firmly and pull it out ? Surely there's some sort of clip that holds it in ?
