  • Replacement CV's - Suggestions?

Hi Folks, Can anyone suggest a source for replacment CV's? Not to fussed if aftermarket or Original but at a resonable price.

As I have lifted the car I noticed that there is a company on Ebay selling sets for lifted prado's with longer axles that seem like a good idea but am suspect about quality at only about $300 for a complete set.

Any experiance out there with these?

Try Repco, that's where we get them from for work. I would stick with the genuine ones until you have a problem though, usually they are stronger than normal aftermarket ones.

I agree stick with genuine. Toyota driveline is very strong, especially c/v's

Repco are cheap & good warranty, but I have found they can bind at full droop where genuine don't.

Yip, I think I have an issue with them...

All fine while moving but I have scary sounding clunks\clanks\clicks coming from front end in first few metres when going from forward to reverse or vice versa. Also if from standing start turning sharp at all most full lock.

          Guessing that's buggered cv's??

Sounds like it could well be cv's on their way out. Did you put a diff drop kit in? I can't remember and I'm way too lazy to look

I think Repco may do longer full replacement driveshafts, they do for the Hilux and I know they help out there. I would hit them up and see what they can get. What are your driveshaft angles like with the lift?

Hi Mate, did install the diff drop kit - angles are probably a tad more than they should be... I was hoping to get a set of the RCV CV's but on contacting the company they say that that dont support toyota's at this point - they are apparently bullet proof and can handles bigger angle better.

Did a 4 day trip in the high country a few weekends ago with some very steep slipery climbs so expect I may have tweaked them then.

I'll contact repco - so if I get the complete CV's from Toyota can I just swap out the longer drive shafts?

Not 100% sure that the internal spline is the same, but I would guess it is so you shouldn't have a problem doing this. I would check on the genuine price first, last driveshaft I checked the price on through Toyota was crazy expensive.

I would run the complete Repco driveshaft if one of mine failed, awesome warranty, just swap it over with almost no questions asked on the two I have ever had issues with (one was just noisy, a bad joint I would guess, the other had been thrashed in a Hilux and the customer just asked the question, we had a go and they swapped it).

I see Cal does an aftermarket driveshaft :P

Hahaha :-) Yes, as if I'm going to go back there... Tell you something funny though - If you look at the picture of the one they advertise then it is the rcvperformance CV as can can be seen when compared with the pictures on the rcv website... Funny thing is when I contacted RCV directly just last week they indicated quite clearly that they dont support Toyota Vehicles at this point - So work that one out??

OK - had a chat with repco and they are asking $275 + a $5 fee for getting them to the store from the warehouse - with a 5 year warrenty - when asked who makes them I got "they are repco brand.

                    So options are:

                    1. Repco Brand at $280 a pop with 5 year warrenty

                    2. Burson's GSP Brand at $250 a pop with 1 year warrenty

                    3. Ebay cheapies at $300 for a pair - with extended shafts.

Do you know anyone in the industry?? Repco do a great trade discount, and freight from the warehouse is bullshit, get them with their daily stock order for free!! I would go for the Repco ones personally.

Repco ones are imported by I think it's "drive tech" or similar, I think they do their wheel bearing assemblies as well.
So no big brand, just Chinese like most of them.

OK - So I ended up going for the Bursons (GSP) CV's - Picked them up yesterday and hope to have installed in the next week or so as part of a 100K service.
Going private for the service not Toyota

Usually they will just replace whichever end joint is stuffed with an aftermarket complete joint. Check out driveline services
