    Have you got some pics? What sort of costs? If the box is not supposed to get this hot shouldn't toyota be sorting the issue out?

      Got no idea how to put up pics sorry, on Tin175 for sale thread theres some pics mounted that is of mine. Cost can't remember got the cooler from SCA when they had 25% off and bought a bulk load of stuff from Tin so don't no individual cost of brackets.
      Could not agree more that toyota should sort ot out but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.
      Hope you have a win tomorrow with them also may pay to question whats the operating range of the oil from the manufacturer of oil

        Had the service guys have a look at the transmission temp and they seemed concerned. Said I was the second person to complain of excessive temperatures and thumping when down shifting the gears intermittently. Investigating the outcome of the other Prado they were dealing with in the last couple of weeks. Sounds interesting. Easy fix maybe? Apparently there is a transmission cooler mounted under the passenger side of the car. Can anyone confirm this?

          I don't think there is from memory, lines run down drives side from radiator strait to trans

            On the pre 2.8L version there is a return line fuel cooler on the passenger side. Looks like a big finned aluminium heatsink. There may be confusion relating to this cooler.

              Brackets are 2mm pressed stainless and cost $60 posted in Australia.

                After roughly 800klms towing our 1.5t camper over easter I'm happy to report the trans temp didn't go above 97 degrees C and this was up Cunningham range as well and this was pushing the car hard to see if would get hot. Also noticed the trans would hold into 5th longer and would even get 6th. Any one with the new 6 speed I strongly suggest fitting a secondary cooler to you trans as well. My last trip before cooler fitted i couldn't keep temps below 120 and would evem get 170 up ranges .

                  Don't understand why Toyota don't add a radiator to the autos ATF on the diesel models, like they have on the petrol auto models.

                  Regardless of what Toyota Aust states, the ATF needs changing on a regular basis, especially if towing. Windsor Toyota in western Sydney will change the ATF without question, and have already done so on my petrol auto at my request, whereas some Toyota dealers will not change the ATF at all.

                    Is this not the same gearbox as in the 200 series? If it is up to it with their 3500kg towing limit why are they not up to it in a Prado with a 2500kg limit?

                      The 200 series uses the AB60f not the AC60f. It seems the AB unit is used for their big torque engines. Looks like the Prado gets the newer but lower rated unit. It's a V8 transmission versus a V6 transmission.

                      Cruiser wagons have traditionally had much more beefier autos than the smaller Prado.

                        100 series transmission is the same as the Prados. 200 series has about 50% more torque. Makes sense to me that they are now different units.
