Hey guys,

So I went and bought my service parts today and thought I should also quote up a trans service. Well apparently Toyota say that my vehicles automatic transmission is not fitted with a trans filter?? Has anyone heard of this? This would be the first auto I have seen without a filter or strainer or gauze that is serviceable.

Maybe they say that because they also claim that we never need to change the ATF but we all know this is not true as I had to change mine at 120k as have many on this forum.

I've attached a snip-it from the Prado service manual. I've never had this particular tranny open but I also assume there is a filter/strainer. The manual confirms this.

Just remember these Autos have special 'Totota WS' ATF inside.

I thought this was very odd, but even if it's a sealed for life unit they should still list a filter as what if a mechanical failure had happened? Any ways I will check with another dealer about parts. Thanks

Or better still buy a Cooper filter on Ebay for a fraction of the price if Toyota say it doesn't exist.

I thought this was very odd, but even if it's a sealed for life unit they should still list a filter as what if a mechanical failure had happened? Any ways I will check with another dealer about parts. Thanks

Filter and gasket about 35 bucks at repco

Also a good time to flush fluid ..... either toyota ws or go to a penrite fs or lv

Did mine and fitted a cooler at the same time.

This is exactly what I'm planning on doing to mine to, flush then fit a trans cooler.

Just wanting to know if anyone has done a detailed with photos guide of servicing these autos as i am going to do mine and just not sure of refill process etc and any gotchas doing it.
Some of the other threads on PP are awesome for this stuff and give you Part numbers and tools to use etc.

Very similar to what amts has posted but the 150 series does not have a dipstick.
you will need to find the correct procedure for topping up the level on the gearbox

Anyone care to give a price on a trans flush/service? Don't really want go through local Toyota dealer because it's under new car warranty still (just.. 90k), but being remote, not too many other options, and the procedure sounds very Toyo/Prado specific.

My Toyota dealer in western Sydney changed the tranny fluid 2 years back, still under warranty, as the people working there have more knowledge than Toyota Aust, and agreed with me that the fluid needs changing at regular periods if towing, regardless of what head office states.

Cannot remember now, but the fluid change was about $150, fluid and labour, the filter extra.

Thanks heaps Yowie... Was that a full flush? Or just the 5litre ish fluid change that seems common?

Will wait to see what exorbitant price they quote me
