Picked up my 150 GXL yesterday. Sounds like this will be on the top of the mods list. Just a querie though, does this disable the chime for 'headlights on' as well? If so maybe I'd better find another way otherwise my wife will be ringing me for a jump start all next winter!

The headlights turn off automatically once the vehicle is shutdown and the drivers door has been opened so not a huge issue.

Cool, thanks Wooly. Didn't get much of a chance to play with it yesterday before the 'handbrake' pointed at the hilux and said 'thats your car there'. I'm sure if I'm nice she'll give me another drive tho. LOL

Here are some pics to help anyone still needing to do this mod. It's easy so don't put up with the annoyance anymore, get into it and disable the chime!

Thanks to all those who have posted in this thread. I probably wouldn't have gone fishing around if I didn't have the knowledge gained from previous posts.

I silenced the chime using only phillips head screwdrivers as tools on the screws. The rest was done just by pulling the dash with my fingers which minimised the chance of damage to the dash.

Step 1- sit in the driver's seat and pull towards yourself the outside of the tacho & speedo facias.
Follow the pics below for removing the other bits-

Jaycar sell a very handy kit of plastic levers made for prising off panels etc. Forgot what they are called exactly, but they are bright orange and very useful for all sorts of jobs on the interior.

I'm currently driving a mine spec Hilux and it seems to have even more chimes than my Prado, which I din't think possible. It feels like big brother is in the car with me!

Chimes to tell you what gear you're in? And that you've got it in gear and are stationary? And to let you know that the engine is running when you're in neutral and should be driving? Haha.

The hilux chimes can be turned off or dissconnected.
You'll have to google it because I can't remember exactly but it's something like you had to turn the ign on while holding the trip meter reset in and then press is a number of times within a time and the car enters the program mode. Or disconnect the single small wire that goes to the ign barrell for the key in door open chime and the wire under the driver's seat for the seatblet chime.

So I have just the door chime left to figure out how to disable.

- No seatbelt disabled (dealer)
- keyless entry beep disabled

It still looks like nobody can work out how to disable the drivers door chime?

Why not just put a switch on the wire from the door interior light sensor switch on that door? We have that problem on another non Toyota 4wd and we just wedge a match in the door interior light switch in the B pillar and that holds the switch in so the car thinks the doors shut. if this works with a Prado it would be easier than messing with the dash I think.

Just got back from a 2wk outback trip which was the 1st time I got to drive the Prado constantly (ie It's usually the missus car). We went out across the desert and the number of beeps / buzzing, etc nearly drove me insane.... The number of times that I just wanted to stop the car on level ground, quickly slide the Transmission into Neutral and hop out to do something became painful due to the continual beeping, etc. Beeps when u don't have your seatbelt on // beeps when the engine is running and the Auto in Neutral and u open the door to get out // beeps when u turn off the engine while also having the door open // beep after beep.... It drove me mad as well as my mate in his 80's.

Can some tell me if the mods suggested in this topic will solve this continual beeping ??? I can't believe that people put up with this and why car manufacturers wire all this crap into cars.... do they think we area bunch of dummies???

This is one mod I want to do b4 our next trip because the thought came into my mind about selling it after the lease runs out purely due to all these constant warnings beeps, etc.... I also came across a bloke with the 200's and those vehicles are just as bad as the Prados.....

With Car Manufacturers wiring all this sort of warning crap into cars has put me off buying a new 4wd in the future when the lease runs out..... Might go back to a 2nd 100's Cruiser when things were a little more balanced.

just my rave for the moment.....
cheers..... Rob (macca)
