Slip Indicator or VSC Off Indicator comes on unexpectedly

Had a weird problem today when slowing down and braking approaching an intersection. Either the "Slip Indicator" or "VSC Off Indicator" light flicked on then off (it was rather quick so I just recall the light being amber with squiggly tyre tracks) and the Prado stuttered like it was braking. It kept going but felt like it was being restrained (i.e. loss of power) intermittently for the next 30 secs or so.

The same thing happened once before on leaving my driveway but I thought nothing of it at the time. Both times the Prado would have been traveling less than 5kms/hr and all 4 wheels were definitely on the ground.

Does this sound like an electrical problem?

It sounds like a computer or sensor problem to me however I have only had my 150 a few weeks, so my experience with the Prado VSC is zero. If it were mine I would try and clean the ABS sensors on the calipers as when the sensors on my 120 got really dirty, the brakes locked on. Failing that I would be off to a good Toyota service department.

Well the Kaka is booked in for the 60K service on the 22nd even though she's only done ~45K, had to get it in for the last capped one under the factory warranty. I have mentioned this problem when booking it in so they can check it out.

Did they find anything on the service?. Mine does the same thing leaving the driveway fairly regularly, and has been doing it almost since new. Just flicks the light very quick and makes the beep noise and that's it. I've mentioned it at every service but all I get told is " we couldn't get it to do it ". Same response I get when I tell them that is surges/hesitates some times. Grrr. Very frustrating.

Nothing found and ECM logs clear supposedly.

Mine did it again this morning when leaving the driveway. I don't get a beep though, that or it's really quiet.

Now that you mention it I have had the same surge/hesitate issue quite regularly, thought I was thrashing the "eco" mode. It's quite off-putting when it happens, it feels like it's being held back then you get a bit of a surge.

Do you have a UHF installed by any chance? I believe mine's under the shifter surround. I'm wondering if that is interfering with something in the electronics although the unit has been off whenever I've noticed the issue.

I do have a UHF fitted, mine is in the passengers side at the base of the "A" pillar. I've thought about whether that would have an effect but it does it without the UHF on.

I'm glad I'm not going insane.
