I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about replacing the dull head unit in the gxls? the one with bt and usb? I had my eye on the eclipse nav system and I have heard that the gxls have the panasonic not fujitsu head units. Could someone shed some light on this ? thanks

Shiner I fitted a VMS GPS. You can fit anything you want as long as you buy the facia to take a double DIN unit, when I priced it that was about 900 bucks alone plus the stereo.
Si is right, have a look, there is a lot of stuff on here about it, I read a metric poo load of it and just ended up going with my gut making the decision. You'll read good and bad on every unit you look at. One suggestion though, Prado use a dual diversity antenna and you can only plug one of the antenna in. The reception will be ok but you may want to fit another antenna if you have a spot for it.

The GXL unit is indeed from Panasonic. I have seen the facia advertised on eBay for $200. This also then allows you to move the display unit to where the radio is located now. I am still using the standard GXL unit and a Tom Tom for navigation. If I was to be on the road all day, I would probably go for the Eclipse unit also. Fred

Reggie I will probably have a spare lower facia available soon. I fitted a replacement head unit/GPS in the top then purchased a factory fit unit off eBay. The guys I got the GPS off have now offered me a lower facia, I'll have 2 now.
I just hope they're supplying wiring as well. It seems to be easier said than done to have the new head unit and display screen working together. I'll find out soon enough.2011 White GXL Diesel, ARB Sahara bar, Lightforce Genesis, ARB under bonnet compressor, Dual Batteries, GME TX3540

I've got the screen fitted, just need to sort out the wiring. Heading up north on Friday for a month, if I can work out how to post photos off my iPad I'll put some up while I'm sitting around having a couple of coldies.2011 White GXL Diesel, ARB Sahara bar, Lightforce Genesis, ARB under bonnet compressor, Dual Batteries, GME TX3540
