Most vehicles nowdays are controlled via a LAN. This is a single wire control system and allows any device to be controlled via a digital signal and talk to each other. Cars have separate LAN systems for the air bags, air conditioner and controls etc.
The VIM module is programmable and can be set to send a signal to the unit to turn things on and off. Such as make the unit think it is parked when it is driving. Do certain things when pushing buttons on the steering controls etc.
For example I installed one of these devices in a GM to turn on the the sat nav device input and allow it to operate at speeds up to xxx rather than when stationary.
CAM audio members sell the units for the video interface for the VE commodore. A user on the Holden LS1 forums and GPS Australia was making and selling the modules for the VE commorore and I assume selling these through the CAM stores. His name is turbocorty. This was in 2008/2009 so I don't know if he is still about. The other option is to see if car solutions can help. See: http://car-solutions.com/en/car-vide...ion-interfaces
Or this place in Ukraine. Yes I bought a touch screen interface from here using western union and stuff me it arrived and he even gave me support via email thanks to his broken english and google translate.
The units were about $250/$300 back in 2008/2009 so $400 today seems reasonable.
Best of luck.

Thank you for your interest, however we do not process international orders, ship internationally, or take international credit cards/Credit cards without a USA billing address.
Compatibility might be an issue as the US cars often use different spec sat nav unit.

I wonder if these work on the Aus version of the Landcrusier Prado? They suit the lexus in the US but don't list the Lexus GX. See: http://www.prestigioussociety.com/?page_id=5
Or this by the opposition: http://www.beatsonicusa.com/nav-dvd-...ss-module.html

Jasen, As you are in Perth give Brian Wallis (08) 9470 4233 a call from Autotainment in East Vic Park and ask him if he can supply and install the device. He is passionate about this sort of thing. I have no association with his company other than a customer.
PS he will probably try to sell you a replacement sat nav system!Last edited by Cuvier100; 28-08-2013, 10:17 PM.

I have sent them my VIN number and a photo of the head unit and will see if it is compatible.
