  • 220Volt100Watt power soket

    Hi all
Has anyone used this power socket driver's side of a 150series? If so, what for? Is it suitable for powering an autofridge? I haven't found anything in the owner's manual about it.
    Thanks

The 220v socket seems to be designed to run small chargers for mobiles, laptops etc while on the move. It goes off with the ignition. I have tried to run a Primus Mammoth 45l from this socket and the start current seems to trip the circuit. No problems with the fridge running from 12 V circuit in 2nd row seat. Interestingly the compressor is the same as the Waeco 45l mentioned above.

I now have a 2nd battery system with extra sockets in the rear to get around the problem of the power going off with the ignition. Most small devices can run from 12V sockets via adapters.

Yes it may be able to run a fridge but due to conversion losses ie
step your cars 12V up to 220V then back down to 12V again it is
really not very efficient to do so.

Secondly the power outlet is only active when the ignition is on.

I had the panel off a few weekends ago there and the wiring is very small gauge, not sure how much load it could actually handle.

Runs the playstation for the kids when we go touring. As well as charges other small things while driving along that don't have 12v adapters. A mate of mine runs his waeco from it with no dramas, but I personally think the wiring is not up to task for running a fridge so I have run twin 6mm cable to the back from a second battery for the fridge. Also much better option for camping as the fridge still runs when the ignition is Off.

I used it in conjunction with a 3.5A battery charger to charge the aux battery before I installed it under the bonnet with a 20A ctek dc-dc converter. Worked great to keep the battery topped up. I calculated the charger to be 96W so only just made it! Thinking of pulling the panel off and seeing if I can replace the 100W inverter with my 300W inverter or even the 1500W! I think space might be an issue for the larger one though.

                Cheers.

I think there has been a thread or two on the topic of upgrading the inverter - mostly along the lines of don't do it. For a start the 12V wiring would need to be upgraded to handle the 300W (net) output. Easier to run a second battery system (as I have with 6B&S wiring) and an inverter from a high capacity socket (about 30A for a 300W inverter). Doing anything yourself on the 220V side would be most likely be illegal - that is why inverters have a direct socket on them.

As I said before I rum my waeco off of it whilst driving and change over to battery when camping
waeco draws 75 watt through its invertor so well within spec
