  • HID Bulbs for 2014 150 VX - replace Main beams

Hi I recently bought a pair of HID bulbs for the Prado 150 from offroad industries. They are 9005 bulbs, 55W 6000k. I connected as per the instructions but they will not light up
Does anyone know whether it is because they are HID and the 2014 Prado does not recognise these through some form of computer chip? Or could there be another reason for them not working, other than the obvious that they are fused. They are brand new and I tried both on one side only
Could it be a case that I must insert them into both sides to get them to work?
If anyone has done this on a 150 VX 2014, I would appreciate any help

If you are this is wrong on so many levels and glad they are not working.

For the most part I'm with the others. ... but it should've worked. To the best of my knowledge the 2014 is not canbus headlight system.

Being a VX shouldn't it have LED headlights???????

Might be part of the reason

Some weird responses to a genuine question - read the post and if you don't know the answer pass up the option to say anything - Firstly, Main beams only used when necessary and more often than not, offroad - I cannot see what the hype is all about when you can fit HID spots to work legally with your main beams - Secondly if you are technically minded I would not mind hearing your answer. Thirdly the VX has low beam LED and halogen main (high) beam

If you want to give me the reasons for changing main beams when you are in control of using them - I'm all ears

many thanks for the responses - now can we get back to the question

Hook it straight up to the battery and see if it turns on

Might have been easier if you explained things properly in the first place, it's called high beam not main beam. I think the people who have responded so far have taken your term of main beam to mean low beam as its the 'main' one we use. I must admit that having been around cars for a long time, I have never heard the term 'Main Beam' when referring to headlights.

This is where the confusion is...
you say "main beams" to 90% of us this is your driving lights that are used all the time.

So I too know you have LED for your main beam (driving lights) being a VX and couldn't work out
1 - why would you replace LED to HID
2 - using 55w HID for every day driving
3 - You don't have the correct reflector to get the best out of HID...
Oh and I don't believe you have a lens washer to cool the lens down which is required for HID.

If you have hooked it up to your "high Beam" then make sure you know which wire is + and - as this will all depend on the HID box being a - or + active switch.

                      Thanks for corrections and updates

But none the wiser - Will try reversing wires

Has anyone used offroad industries HID bulb replacements for a Prado 150 VX on 'High Beam'?

Evltoy... the lens washer is not to cool anything down. HIDs give of less heat than a halogen. They are there because a dirty lend on a hid will give a lot glare and refraction.

I too would try putting the hid directly across the battery.

Does your car give a warning message when one of your high beams are unplugged? If so, they are being monitored by the CAN system and this lies your problem. The ideal test here is to take a multimeter or test light and put it directly across the conector of its multimeter. If test light connect to positive of battery and probe negative for a ground source then connect the clip to a ground and probe the positive terminal for power.

If all checks out good then try again with the halogen. If the results are the same then measure again with the hid fitted.

If you get the same results then thereis two possibilities springing to mind. One faulty HIDs. Which is unlikely because you've tested them prior on the battery right?

The other option could potentially be the wiring in the prado is not upto scratch. A 35w hid on start up can snag about 8Amps. A 55w will potentially doible that and if it can't get it.... no start.

Thanks for the thoughts - I bought the HID's from offroad industries and they are direct replacements for the Prado 150 2014 --- and plug in as standard from the existing wiring - goes through the ballast and onto the HID bulb. The bulbs work directly off the battery but not through the switch, so I am thinking it has something to do with the monitoring of taking out the halogen bulbs

Any other suggestions or ideas are welcome

                            Thanks

Did you follow the rest of that message? What was the result? Have you yet tested them directly across the battery?
