Phone charging is pretty complicated these days, especially if you want to do it quickly. Many Android phones use various versions of Qualcomm's Quick Charge protocol which lets the phone and charger negotiate over the data lines. Even getting a higher current cigarette lighter -> USB may not give you the results you want. I use an Aukey car charger as they implement Quick Charge (some V2.0 and others V3.0). With one of those I can run my Nexus5 in sat-nav mode, with the screen permanently on and GPS permanently lit up, and it still manages to provide a net positive to the phone battery... i.e. the phone is more charged at the end of the journey then it was at the beginning. Every other car charger I've tried still has the battery slowly draining when operating in that high-power mode.

I installed one of these and it seems to charge pretty quick.

I put the outlet next to the DAC switch and grabbed power from the positive of the cigarette plug in the centre console.

Just tee'd off the right wire, I didn't note down which one it was but when you pull the console out (pretty easy) you can see which wire goes to the centre pin. Def confirm with a multimeter though!

I shaved the insulation off a few cm from the console loom connector, twisted on +ve to the usb charger, soldered it and taped up with leccy tape. The earth comes with a ring terminal that I screwed down with the motion sensor sitting under there.

Def a handy spot where I put it for gadgets in that front pocket and the phone up on a dash mount. With three kids and all the gadgets we take touring I'm considering putting in another one! Also prob change it over to an auxillary circuit once I do my dual battery install.

Yeah was contemplating one in the back but there's no switch sockets there, only the cigarette lighter. Would require a bit of cutting and mounting.

I use one of these in the front cigarette lighter outlet, it charges my Asus Zenfone 2 on quick charge. Could be an option for the rear cigarette lighter outlet also.

Well had it in the dealer today there reponse was its not meant to be a charger, but then tested it and said it does charge.
To what i than screamed at the wife, yes we know it shows its charging but it may put 10% in 4hrs

the usb is a very slow way to charge a mobile / tablet. the best and cheapest option is to buy a cig plug usb adapter with a 2.1 amp usb outlet. about $3 off ebay. this will charge at the same rate as a home wall charger.
