Advise on AV mode on media screen.

Can someone advise on what the AV screen (has large movie camera icon) is all about. The vehicle is a 2015 GXL. I thought it had something to do with playing DVDs but nothing seem to work. Perhaps it is not active on my particular model????

Pretty sure that that's the one people have been hooking up to iphones etc. Look on a few of the Prado facebook pages, I'm not 100% as I have a 10 model and have replaced my stereo.

EDIT: Should clarify that I'm pretty sure there's some sort of harness/ RCA plugs on the back that you can hook into to provide an external source to the headunit, and that if you do that, the camera button hooks you into that feed.

On my 2017 GXL the manual states that AUX or A/V mode requires connecting the external audio and video into the 3.5mm 4 way connector.

The 4 connections on the plug are from tip back; left audio, right audio, GND, video.

Haven't actually tried it myself as yet!

Post 5 explains the 4 way 3.5 mm plug, I remember buying one and an adapter to connect to an Android phone only to find that the video stops the moment the handbrake is off, so nothing useful like phone mirroring allowed,
The only way to make the head unit do what you want is to buy a Chinese Android unit with a 10 inch screen, the factory unit is so locked down and restrictive as to be almost useless, unless of course you enjoy navigating with old maps. Can't resist a dig on my favourite subject.

I'm guessing you could probably ground the wire out if you wanted. Android headunit has so much more functionality though- I love how mine can do Hema and torque Pro.

Yes absolutely, I did consider changing the handbrake wire but was put off by the fact that the GPS then thinks the vehicle is stationary!

Whilst looking for something else found this in the Navman instruction book
How do I play videos on my
Navman via AV IN?
AV IN function is not available on all models and is only available in selected countries.
Depending on your Navman model, you can turn your Navman into an external screen to display video
playback from an external composite video source.
The AV IN function supports
NTSC/PAL (interlace) formats.
1.Before you use the AV IN function, connect your Navman to an AV external source according to the
instructions in the Hardware User Manual
2.On the Main Menu, tap
. The AVscreen will display.
3.You can now start playing back the video. The playback screen will appear on your Navman.
4.To exit the playback, tap

Regarding 2 the item to tap looked like 2 jacks and item 4 was the power button.
